Dell Latitude C400 LCD Screen problem

I picked up a C400 that works fine through VGA but not LCD screen. At first, when I powered up the screen showed text but within 30 seconds it went to 6-8 vertical white blocks and never been able to show anything again. If screen would of went black, I would of suspected either inverter or bulb. But in my case it does light up but no text. Any ideas? The screen is not cracked.

Thank you for the link to the manual but I am not looking for replacement guideliness. I did take the panel apart and inspected the wiring but found everything to be intact. I am looking for help to point on what could be a problem with my screen.

Thanks for pointing out the Fn/F8 button. I am aware of this feature to switch between LCD and VGA monitor. My issue with LCD screen itself. The screen light lights up but has no text to display, where VGA works fine. What I am trying to identify if this is LCD screen issue itself, or maybe cable is damaged, or Motherboard graphics chip is dead. My assumption, if VGA works, the MB Graphics chip is alive. I have carefully looked at the cable behind the screen it looks in good shape. Since LCD lights up, the Inverter Board and the bulb are functional. What could it be? Anyone had similar issue like that? Please point me in the right direction. Thanks,

Hi, I´m Edroid, I have the same c400 screen problem, it was working good with windows 2000 but it gat a virus, so I decide to upgrade it to win xp and when it first started the screen went blank, then I conected a external lcd and it works good I did the bios upgrade to A12 then it was working good about 3 months, then i started to jump to the left about 3" for some minutes and fix alone , then one day it started to freze the screen and never come back again, so a lot of people recomed to change the panel so what can we do? to get a used one?...

Laptop will not bootup

I would plug in a cable to another monitor to see if you can get a picture. Most tv's now have a monitor link. You could also try getting on your computer through a network computer if you have one. If it works with another monitor you can use it to help you fix it. Dell has diagnostic programs on their site.

Dell C400 will not boot using LCD screen when cold

I have seen this problem before, after booting to the external monitor go into the display settings and try setting the resolution to 1024 X 768 and the color settng to 16 bit or preferably 32 bit. If you can do this, then shut down the laptop remove the external monitor and try booting on the LCD display. BPCS
