In any program, when you choose Print, it will print setting dialog, then you click Property button, under Main tab, in the ink selection, select color. It should work.

You can set these back to defaults if you go to Colorsync, click the "devices" tab, then choose "Display".
Click on your display's name. To the right, you'll see where it says "current profile". Click the little triangle and choose "Set to Factory". Voila!

740i is recognized and seems to be printing but nothing appears on page in either color or b/w. New black cart installed.

It sounds like the print heads are clogged and need to be flushed. This especially happens to printers that have gone unused for an extended period of time while still loaded with in cartridges. A local technician can probably flush these heads for you.

Changing ink default to BLACK

Not possible.
Epson uses the black cartridge mostly, but also adds color to the black printing in order to keep the color inks from drying in the print jets on the printhead.
They also make lots of money that way...

C5180 won't print in black and white only

I do not have this model printer or computer, but I thought I would offer that most printer set-up dialog boxes from the program you are printing from, will let you select mono. I'm somewhat familiar with this because I use CAD software and though I draw multi color lines, I want only to print black-line.
I hope this helps... Good luck!

How do I set my epson cx5000 to print in black and white?

Okay I take it its not printing blacking and white with this type of question, there is no true way of setting this to blakc and white as its a automatic thing if your printing in color only check the black and white cart. to see if its despensing first also whatever printing program you use you can tell it not to use color then it will defualt to black and white but you would have to keep doig this for every print job.

Btw, I’m available to help over the phone in case u need at

Epson DX4000 printer

Try this. Removed the color cartridge. Open the printer settings under Quality and check the box that says print in "greyscale" or "black and white.
This will rule out and color cart problem and also change the printer settings. You will have to change this back to print in Color,
Hope this helped........

Open the printer Properties, Under quality there should be a box
that you can check (print in greyscale) or (print in black & white).
You have to remembe to uncheck to print in color.

Printing in black & white when color cartridge ran out

I had the same problem. Had no choice but to buy the colors I ran out to make the printer work. In order to avoid future problems and save on color inked I attempted to follow the steps of a previous posting, however, that did not work for me. This is what I had did. Print, select properties, advance, continue, check box - Black ink only. Remember when you decide to print in color you must reset your setting and take out the check from the - Black ink only.
