Question about Sony STR-DH700 A/V Receiver

1 Answer

Sony STR-DH700 receiver

I am on my third amp and now probably going to #4. When listening to it (fairly loud) all of a sudden it shuts off and then that's it - push power and it only clicks. This has happened to all three of them now. The one prior went into protect mode and would turn back on - we determined that it was an issue with the speakers and replaced them - that does not happen anymore. I unplug it - nothing. Are there any known issues with this amp? It's not that bad of an amp. It is connected to a bunch of Klipsh surround speakers with a 450 watt sub, a sony blu-ray - shaw cable box, another regular dvd player....

Thanks

..Greg

The one common component in this case is YOU. Maybe you might look at the impedances of your speakers to make sure you're not presenting too little to the amp. And turn it down. It's not like the result is totally UNexpected.

Sony av receiver #str-dh700. only could hear relay clicking when i press power . the system could not be come on . what it be / & how to repair it?

One of two things. Either the main power fuse is open or the power transformer is bad. If the fuse is blown, then it usually means you have a bad amp channel that needs to be repaired. If it's not the main fuse, then the thermal fuse in the transformer may have opened which requires the transformer to be replaced.

No sound when hooking receiver to subwoofer using standard red RCA cable. Do I need a subwoofer cable?? I have turned my tuner subwoofer to YES, powered up receiver and subwoofer but nothing.

Probably not if it takes RCA input, but the receiver needs to be informed of the sub's presence and hw you want to share low frequencies among the rest of the speakers and itself. Then you need to set the relative levels using test tones, which also proves the sub works.

I HAVE A SONY RECIEVER STR-DH700, I get no sound

make sure the FM antenna is connected and in a good place then check to see if the A-B speaker selector is selected properly.check to see that the sound field is set properly, My 800 allows for several different options and if your speaker wires are reversed or not in the correct position front left at front left etc it will not send the signal to those speakers. try using the TEST TONE feature if you have one it will send a signal to each speaker in sequence (LF< C< RF<in order) it will go all the way around to see if they are connected properly, that way you can tell if they are connected at all or in the wrong spot on the back interface. I dont know if that is what you meant by AUTO CAL, but that is a seperate feature when you use the connected mic to determine range, height and distance to the position in the room you are most likely to be seated for optimal sound.

STR-DH700 won't power up unless I unplug-plug it.

This is a logic problem with the internal microprocessor. A quick experiment: Turn the unit on for about 2 minutes and shut it down. Doe sit power uip in this case? If so, I'd suspect that the heat generated during normal operation is creating an internal problem thaty is preventing the micro from recognizing the "off" condition. The power data line is hung and is not being recognizwed by the micro so any attempt to turn the unit on will fail. The unplug/re-plug essentially clears or resets the unit.

If the unit is new, return it for warranty repair. It will be important to describe when the unit fails however. Try to see how long it must remain on for the problem to occur.

Update this with your results if the unit is not under warranty and we'll try to narrow it down.

Thanks,
Dan

Sound from reciever

LFE (ONE CABLE ON THE SUB TO SUB OUT ON AVR) OR stereo L/R analog cable from sub to tape in/or out on avr (depends on AVR) LFE connection the sub turns up with the AVR - the stereo cable threw tape in/out on AVR only turns up via its own onboard amp volume from AVR has no affect.
