1. check with you ISP as to the connection
2. you may have lost the IP ( internet Protocol) address.
3. You can reset the router by unplugging it for 1 minute and rebooting the computer.

I have a 5101 Surfboard Cable modem connected to a new IMac. The modem is connected to the cable outlet. On the modem, the Send and Online lights are not lit... I can't connect to my ISP which is...

1. Unplug all wires to modem, for 5 mins.
2. Reconnect all wires and plug it in. Wait up to 5 minutes to see if it works.
3. If not then replace coax cable
4. Replace Ethernet cable.
If none of this works you may need a new modem

My cable modem wont connect to the internet anymore.. all lights are on except the online light wich just continously blinks.. then when i go to logs it sais something failed what do i do?

I have a similar modem, my online light ( orange) blinks all the time, it is supposed to when you are online.
Have you checked your cable input, is it screwed in tight, how about where it attaches to the wall connector.
Unplug your power lead to reboot the modem.
Check your internet settings.
Control panel / internet options / connections / lan settings.
Is automatically detect setting ticked, if not tick it.
Is use proxy ticked, it should not be usually.
Have you a spare ethernet cable to check if that is a problem.
Still having problems? write back.
BTW i am in UK so some of the advice may differ for you

Changing Password

the only way is to reset your modem.

To reset the modem :

press and hold the reset button on the back of your modem for 15 seconds using any thin stick.

Yes that can be resolve by a firmware update and you can get the latest firmware from Motorola's web site and if after the update still have the same problem this is already a hardware problem of the unit and needs a replacement....

Your modem is not synching. It could be a number of possibilities, and you're going to have to do some troubleshooting to narrow it down.
  • Verify that your AC, Cat 5, & ethernet cables are connected securly
  • Verify that your modem is not in "standby" mode
  • Power cycle your modem
  • Try a different cable outlet
  • Call your ISP to make sure your modem is provisioned and your service is set up for cable internet.
