My hp pavilion dv2000 is not showing the cd/dvd-rom icon or drive on my laptop

Go to HP's Website and search for your laptop; it is very possible that your computer does not have the drivers installed; look for drivers, then "Disk Drives" and download the file.

My HP Pavilion dv 1000 won't start when I turn it on. I was told that the problem is the motherboard.

1. Take the battery out of the laptop & try to turn on the laptop using power adapter only. If the computer turns on, then the battery is defective & needs to be replaced.
2. Make sure the power adapter is not defective. Test the output voltage of the power adapter using a voltmeter. Compare the voltmeter reading to the nominal value written on the adapter or the laptop.
3. Make sure the DC jack is not loose or broken. A loose DC jack will need to be re-soldered. A broken one will need to be replaced.
4. If you have another processor which is compatible with your laptop's model, try swapping processors & test to see if the laptop will work
5. The power button could be bad.
6. The motherboard could be defective & needs to be replaced.

On then off.

visit they have had a big issue with many of their models. you may be entitled to use the enhancement warranty for bad motherboards. but your issue is the motherboard. below is their link. i had a unit replaced because of this issue, but hp has dropped many units from their list after the 24month period. one of mine is not on there anymore. but dont hurt to try

HP DV9000 Stopped working

Whether or not the motherboard is smoked depends upon what happened to cause the power jack to get broken in the first place. I know that if sent to HP, they would not spend any time attempting to fix the jack, they would replace the motherboard. If the jack has come loose from the board without damaging the traces, it is possible to repair this quite simply. That assumes that you bring the unit to a shop that regularly repairs surface mounted boards. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REPAIR THIS YOURSELF.

Sorry about the capital letters, but it is important to note that an improper repair attempt can completely ruin the motherboard.

Please update this with your location and I will try to find a servicer in your area.

HP Pavilion zd8000 PC Notebook turns on...

Time to take it to the repair shop.

I've seen instances where the thermal control unit goes bad and causes a similar problem.
