If the oven is still heating, but the carousel isn't turning, this problem is commonly attributed to a turntable motor that has worn out and may need to be replaced. The motor is attached to the center plastic piece (called a turntable shaft or coupler) under the middle of the glass tray. The following link explains how to access and replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3555716-replacing_a_turntable_motor_on_a_microwa

This is a very simple repair, that usually is not expensive. The price range will be determined by the model and manufacturer. This repair can also be performed on an over the range model microwave oven WITHOUT uninstalling it.

You can refer to any of the following websites for comparison:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

The first three sites listed have helpful exploded view diagrams to assist you with locating and properly identifying the part(s) you need.

If the model number is correct, the part number for a replacement motor is WB26X10135. You may also check the turntable shaft to make sure it is not stripped and slipping on the motor shaft. The part number for the turntable shaft is WB06X10564.

If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

SOURCE: turntable won't turn

The turntable probably isn't on the spinny thing and that is what makes it turn- try lifting it up and putting it back on.

Turn table wont turn

The turntable system consists of the motor, the coupler, the turntable support with rollers, and the tray.

You can see and hear a video of how a turntable motor should sound when you rotate it by hand.

If yours is not set to be off via the control panel, and it won't rotate or it sounds like it's grinding, etc., you may have a bad motor or plastic coupler.

To replace either, you need to unplug power, then remove the bottom cover of the oven.

In some brands, you have to cut the motor cover off with snips, then use a screw when reassembling it.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

Ge spacemaker xl1400 model# jvm141obc Turntable still turns..but while making grinding sound Please help

My wife noticed a strong smell of something burning inside our home. Luckily we were home. The microwave was NOT on...and the turntable was turning and making that grinding sound. When I opened the door, the turntable kept turning....all digital lights were OFF. The microwave does not work. I am extremely angry that this unit was able to continue to grind unnoticed. If we were not home, I assure you that this would have caused a kitchen fire. The upper inside portion was extremely hot to the touch and the cabinet on top of the over-the-range microwave was also very hot. This would have easily caused ignition and a subsequent kitchen fire. I am going to report this to the UL.

Our Spacemaster Microwave can make occasional loud grinding or vibratory noises--deep and low sounds. Solution?

If it has a turntable, the wheels are worn or dirty and are chattering. When I have this problem, I take out the turntable, clean up the floor of the oven, the bottom of the plate, and the wheels on the turntable ring. Then I push a small amount of paste wax (made by S. C. Johnson) onto the axles inside the wheels to lubricate them. (I've kept my worn-out turntable ring going for over 10 years by doing this.) If the turntable has a central post through the floor of the oven, the bearing may need cleaning and lubrication.

Other possible causes would be the bearings in the magnetron cooling fan or the microwave stirring fan in non-turntable models. Excessive dirt on fan blades can cause imbalanced running, which will also generate vibrations.

Makes grinding sound when turned on---does not heat---turntable does turn

Grinding sound may be the turntable not sitting properly on its support. Regarding the heat issue, check the door safety interlock switches for proper function.

As you use your oven, open the door while it is running, arcing occurs on the little contacts and they eventually burn. When they cannot make contact, the oven doesn't know if the door is closed or not. Forget what YOU know about the door ... the oven must know and it knows by the information it gets from these switches. Door open, the oven will not turn on the heat.

Microwave turntable won't turn

You may have a tunrtable motor or spindle problem..
This info is from GE website..( link : http://genet.geappliances.com/geasearch/Dispatcher?REQUEST=GETSEARCHRESULT

To minimize the possibility of electric shock, unplug this appliance from the power supply before attempting any maintenance or cleaning.
  • Make sure the turntable is centered and seated properly. On models with a stirrer motor there is a shaft protruding up through the floor of the microwave. Make sure the turntable is securely fastened to this shaft. On models that turn on a ring with wheels attached, make sure the turntable is seated securely on the ring.
  • Check the turntable to make sure it is placed right side up. If the turntable plate is upside down it will drag on the floor of the microwave.
  • Check to make sure that there is no food or debris under the "wheels" of the turntable ring. Food can prevent the wheels from moving forward.
  • Be certain you are pressing a cook function rather than a timer function.
  • If the microwave has a turntable on/off feature make sure the turntable was not inadvertently turned off. Try depressing the turntable on/off pad to re-engage the turntable.

Goldstar 1310W built in

The following parts are in the turntable system: The turntable motor, underneath the floor of the microwave; the turntable coupler, which is like a small plastic piece; the turntable support, either a three-legged or circular piece with wheels; and the glass turntable tray.

It sounds like maybe your turntable support is missing?

Turntable sounds like its grinding

Sounds like the bottom bearing has siezed. This is then rotating on it's mountings instead of nice ball bearings.

Just check it's not simply any support wheels you can easily get to.
It is possible to access this from inside. If you wish to repair it, unplug, and remove case screws. The drive assembly is easily visable from underneath. If you can get the main bearing off, clean it in parafin or WD40 and use a little light oil on it.

Make sure you replace the case properly - with all screws before attempting to start again.
The microwave generator is only active when electricity is applied, and usually the door assembly is integral to the microwave chamber.
