Question about Compaq Presario Notebook
Should work fine with a laptop..
You can download the drivers from here:

let me look into those then... I will get back to you..
Sorry, in your post you listed the 737a..
Here is the driver download page for the 777a
http://www.3com.com/products/en_US/resul...
Hrmm, let me check some other options
Does the laptop show the card is connected to the pc?
(did you try plugging in the card, then powering on the laptop? as sometimes it will not recognize it unless plugged in first)
at least the laptop "see's" it there.. Maybe there is a way to manually start the device.. I will keep looking into this..
Got this from a site and a user posted :
3Com Airconnect ( 3CRWE777A) PCMCIA in PCI adapter
So it must work.. There must be something we are missing
I'm an idiot.. The drivers you are installing are for the PCI card, and not the wireless card itself.. no wonder it can't start the device.. Let me try to find some drivers... (is there another number on the wireless card itself??)
Hrmm. and the 737a drivers didn't work, eh?
Maybe the drivers for the 3CRWE73796B will work...?
just a double check here, but in your network settings, your wireless connection is enable, right?
make sure also, that after you install any drivers, you must turn of the laptop, plug in the card, and then turn on the laptop, as usually the card needs to be in when windows loads.. Sometimes, it will work without shutting down.. But try both...
Seems like they do!!
OK.. I'm gunna keep working on this, becuase now even I want to know how the other guy did it..
ok, try this one.. this might just work..
I think we already tried that one.. shoot, did you try the other one, the BETA one for 98 on 3coms site ?
Hey no problem.. I know how frustrated I get when I run into a problem and can't figure it out.. And when I seek help, I get the one line answers and the a "well, you can't do it" response, and that just frustrates me even more.. So I'm glad to help.. Hey, 2 minds are better then one, and you seem to know what you are doing, which helps even more!
hrmm.. Well, at least you have given us some additional help with the salt.. always brings good luck.. that's a good sign.. Gunna keep looking...
OK, I know these are not for your card, by try the following drivers:
http://www.smc.com/files/AO/DR26xxWV1_1....
http://www.smc.com/files/AR/DR_SMC2632Wv...
http://www.smc.com/files/AX/DR_SMC2632Wv...
I think we can get around this by, if the above do not work, by finding a driver for a wireless card that is close/works with your card.. I know it can be done, it's just finding the right driver...
may not be able to return them, as removing the card from the adapter voids the warrenty....
although, how will they know...MWA HA HA HA....
These might work:
http://www.smc.com/files/AF/DR_SMC2336W-...
http://www.smc.com/files/AK/DR_2336wagv2...
http://www.smc.com/files/AP/DR_SMC2335W_...
I choose SMC, because they have the most compatible drivers...(in case you were wondering)
Oh, missed that, then no worry about the warranty anyways...
Did any of those work?? Or are you still testing...
well enjoy!!!, and keep me posted!

Thanks but that's for the 737. This is the 777 drivers don't work.
Still no go. I guess they just don't work without the pci adapter card. Strange but no luck with the drivers and 3COM's knowledge base says the card won't work out of the pci adapter. Says it doesn't work in laptop :(
Best I could get was manually installing the drivers. Unfortunately it then says that it could not start the device. I'm beginning to believe that there is no way to make it work outside of a desktop using a pcmcia adapter.
The card # is 3CRWE777A Wish we could get with the guy that got it working :) I'm fairly computer savvy b ut no luck on this one.I think the card & adapter use the same part #
Yup
Tried that as well :) Guess great minds think alike
Me too. I have two of these cards and could really use them in my laptops.Especially if we can run them under win 98.I sure appreciate you working so diligently on this.
No luck. Now it's telling me the device cannot start. Tired installing drivers then inserting card. Tried rebooting, tried installing them then rebooting & inserting card. Even threw some salt over my right shoulder and spit twice :)
I'll try anything at this point. About to just see if I can return them. Got em on e-bay. But it's a matter of pride.
I bought them on E-Bay
Haven't tried the second batch of three. SHould know something by morning. Wife just got back from being out of town all week so it's time to leave the computers for a bit.
