It sounds like there's an error with the laser that reads blu ray media as PS3 games and blu ray movies are both stored on blu ray disks which is read by a different type of laser then a dvd is read by. There's nothing you could do to fix that on your own, the only fix I've heard of is sending it in to Sony.
Most likely you need a new eye.My ps3 wasn't reading neither.At first
it was reading everything but blu-ray.Then it wasn't reading
anything.Little circle in corner be spinning and everything.I cleaned
my eye I used cd cleaner didn't work.My system is out of warranty so
had to get it fixed on own.So i opened it got a q-tip wiped it off with
alcohol switched ends. With dry tip and dried the eye off. That will help
you if your ps3 reads everything but blu-ray.But all it was really
doing is telling me my eye was dying.Suddenly it read nothing so I
invested in a new eye.Put it in myself now she's running like a
champ.Hope this help but if your system still play dvd movies and ps2
games.Your blu-ray is acting up go by my steps first. Before destroying
your ps3 or buying another might be a 50 dollar problem.Compared to
sony 160 to send you another used 1.You can find a blu-ray eye cheap this days on internet.
I am having the same exact issue myself. Starting a month or two ago, it got harder and harder to get PS3 games to play. Now it plays anything that is not blu-ray based. I would be very interested in hearing how you are able to fix the problem.
I bet your blu-ray lens is going bad. If your PS3 is backwards compatible, try putting in a PS2 game or Standard-Def movie. If it loads/plays just fine...that narrows it down to the blu-ray lens/drive. This happened to me a few weeks ago. *NOTE* WHATEVER you do, DO NOT send your PS3 to PSR1. They stole $109 from me. They DO NOT fix your PS3. They lie. I am spending my free time right now trying to help people save their money. THEY STEAL FROM GAMERS! SO WRONG!
probably needs a new lens. can send it in for warranty or replace yourself. i have same issue right now and am going to replace it myself. the only other cause of the problem would be the blu-ray drive board but am not exactly sure on this. still researching the drive board problems. go to http://www.edepot.com/playstation3.html and look up blu ray lens towards the bottom.
The issue is the laser (actually has different diodes for blu ray, ps2 format and regular DVD.
Seems like in your case the only one that is burnt is the blu ray.
Send it back to Sony for repairs or if you do not have warranty purchase a replacement lens and install it yourself.
