I have a 32HL95 Toshiba TV. I have a dark jagged

I have a 32HL95 Toshiba TV. I have a dark jagged line (looks like lightening) that runs from the top to the bottom of my screen. At first it was just at the top and then it spread slowly to the bottom over several weeks.

We have a jagged black line (looks like a lightening bolt) that runs down our Toshiba 32HL95 TV screen. We do not see it all the time mainly on dark or grey backgrounds.

Ok this is most likely a LCD driving board fault, you will have to use the above service and training manual to isolate your trouble, special test and repair equipment is required to troubleshoot and repair. So, anyway, in this case, my professional opinion that one should always get a "Quote" from the manufacturers recommended service center, Toshiba in your case, please contact a local or head office and ask for a referral to an Authorised service center. I cannot stress how important that last point is. It is even worth the cost of shipping. You see an authorised service agent, will have trained staff, trained on their brand, also they have first hand access to parts, original parts. This will actually save you money and ensure you can actually get it back fixed. Of course asking for a "Quote" also gives on the option of repair or replace. Often my clients,do not go through with repair, unless it is moderate, but in some of the more costly jobs they see it, as do i, that a replacement, with a warranty, is a better option. As an aside here, one could then tear the TV down, and sell the Known Good bits. You'd be surprised who needs parts, i myself often must by from third party sources to effect a repair. So money could be recouped, somewhat, and help out someone else.

Thank you for your diagnosis and good suggestions. My brother said the same thing, "Buy a new one with a warranty." We will contact Toshiba and get some help there, too.

    Appreciate your help.

Well as usual a picture would have been nice if we had that facility to include one, But from your descrition it sounds like a torn plasma membrane.
I presume it can be seen when the unit is in the off mode as well as when it is running?

Thanks for using FIXYA

We do not see it when the TV is in the off mode and we see it mostly when the background of the image is grey or black. Does that make sense?

    well then two possible causes.

    1) some of the pixels in the display have failed in intermittenmt pattern

    2) scanning components on display board have failed and so some pixels are not being serviced in the matrix.

It really needs professional intervention to accurately confirm this, as you can appreciate that without looking at it and applying diagnostic tools it is difficult to provide an exact cause to your problem.

Sorry that I cannot be more specific here.

Has there been any power potages that could have caused a spike ( lightning ) Speak to your local tech on taking it in for a quote as if it was caused by some fusion you could claim part of the repair on household insurance.

    Cheers

BTW the reference to lightning I made has no reference to the shape of the damage you reported which was in the shape of a lightening bolt

No outages that I know of and we have a industrial strength surge protector on it. I guess some surge might have still gotten through.

Thank you for your help. We will call in the pros.

    Cheers.

I just acquired a Toshiba 32HL95 TV and cannot get any hd channels although I have a digital cable box. I have tried using the coaxial, hdmi and video connections to no avail.

Try configuring your antenna input. Menu, Installation, Terrestrial, Input Config select your antenna 1 or 2 and > arrow over to select cable. Next auto program: under Terrestrial, Channel Program...this take some time.

Go into the tv menu and select the Preferences menu and set your picutre preference from Theater to Normal. The TV is currently in Theater mode, wich is for viewing with no lights on in the room. Switching it to normal lightens the pictue a lot.

Scans slides too dark.

maybe the slides are too dark, in other words, the pictures you took didn't have enough exposure therefore you it shows up dark.. You could always use photoshop or someother photo manipulation software to lighten the scan, same thing happens with my hp scanner with slide adapter, if it slides just show up dark, lightening it with software will help, unless it is unsaturated/shadows too dark, etc..

Hope this helps.
