Question about Garden

1 Answer

I have a Honda 5013 tractor that won't start and my friend and I were starting to look at the CDI ignition coil and cdi unit and exciting and pulser coil and charging coil ad outline in the service manual. We noted that there was no defined range to set the ohmmeter to for some of this testing AND are trying to determine what ohmmeter would be equivalent to the listed Digital Volt-Ohmmeter-No. KS-AHM-32-003. We would greatly appreciate some direction on this OR at the very least your recommendation for what the problem probably is. Thank you!

I too have a Honda 5013 that quits after 20 or 30 min. of use. Fuel is clean and well supplied. Air too. Spark questionable, the shop says everything checks out fine. But there it sits in my driveway. Any suggestions?

Gx640 6x4 trouble starting

Make sure 12V (battery voltage) is getting to the CDI controller on the Black/yellow wire when the ignition is in the on and start positions.

If the voltage is next check that the pulser coil is sending the trigger signal to the CDI unit. (Black/Blue and Blue wires).

If this signal is there then it should be either CDI unit or the coil pack that is bad.

Hi, Anonymous you may have a faulty CDI box-pulse coil-exciter coil or ignition coil for this scenario you will need your service/owners manual if you can't find the first and best tool you ever bought for your Yamaha, despair not, for a mere $0 you can download another one. How do i wire a honda nsr125 to the coil and what do i need

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Would depend to which coil:
  • ignition coil - green to ground & black/yellow to CDI;
  • pulser coil - blue & green/white to CDI;
  • exciter coil - black/red to CDI;
  • stator coils - 3 X yellow to rectifier/regulator combo.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

On Asian versions of an 84 Honda XR200R, the CDI unit has six wires:
  • blue/yellow - pulse generator
  • black - to ignition coil
  • black/white - engine stop switch;
  • green - ground;
  • green/white - pulse generator
  • black/red - exciter/charging coil at stator.

The ignition coil has 2 wires:
  • green - ground;
  • black - to CDI

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

No spark .ck'd wiring, is there common problem on these with spark?

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

To my understanding, all of the CR250R wiring has to do with the ignition system. Initial checks:
  • disconnect the black / white wire from the engine stop button to the CDI;
  • pulsating low ACV on the blue / yellow & white / green wires from the pulser coil;
  • pulsating high ACV on the blue & white wires from the exciter coil;
  • pulsating high ACV on the black / yellow & green wires to the ignition coil.
Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

No current to the cdi box,but the light comes on when i kick it over?

if theres no current to the cdi but the light works then its either the outer coil or the stator coil is bad and the lighting coil still works.

No ignition changed cdi unit. still no ignition. any ideas? wayne

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

As in most bikes, the CDI is dependent on the other parts of the ignition system. Check the connection / status of the other parts:
  • terminal of the ignition coil - should have a pulsating high AC voltage from the CDI. Tested alone, the ignition coil should have 0.1 ~ 0.3 ohms from terminal to ground and 3 ~ 5 kilo ohms high voltage to ground;
  • pulser coil - should have very low pulsating AC voltage fed to the CDI. Depending on the brand would be 50 ~ 500 ohms;
  • IGN + 12 - supplied to the CDI through the Engine Stop Switch;
  • ground - ground.

Postback results of checks.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

I am not getting spark on my 1997 suzuki bandit 1200s, there is a weak spark for a second then it stops and nothing, it will crank over fine, im almost positive its not my coil packs as i had a known good...

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Just to verify and eliminate the ignition coils, tests for it are:
  • one terminal would have an IGN +12;
  • the other terminal would have a pulsating voltage when cranking;
  • passive test, primary (+ to -), resistance 3 ~ 5 ohms; while
  • any of the primary terminal to HT would be 15 ~ 18 kilo ohms.
The CDI could not be tested since it is a sealed unit. The only way to confirm if it is a CDI is to check the external factors and if they are present yet no spark, then it would be the CDI:
  • the CDI gets its triggers from the pulser coils;
  • the output of the pulser coils would be very very low ACV;
  • it would be preferable to use an analog/needle type multitester for the flickering pulser voltage;
  • the CDI also needs a "go signal" from the interlocks together with the starter relay;
  • try exercising the sidestand when cranking;
  • verify neutral light is on;
  • try starting with the clutch lever pulled.
Another possibility to consider is that the starter is consuming most of the power from the battery leaving very little for the ignition system to use and/or the ignition switch has some loose connection. The IGN +12 to the coil terminal should also test this possibility.

Please postback results / updates of tests performed.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.
