Question about Brother MFC-8220 Fax

1 Answer

Every time I turn on my computer and/or Brother mfc-8220 the led displays "pc busy or fail" message. At the same time it beeps 8 times. it does this twice and then remains quiet until I send a print job to the printer and then it goes through this again. I am using windows 7 with this printer. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software and drivers twice. Any help?

    1. I installed the correct and up to date drivers.
    2. I tried three different USB cables with no success.
    3. I purchased a parallel to USB cable just to try and interestingly it is now working fine? For some reason my computer and the printer do not communicate well using the USB cable.

I am not sure what is going on but it sall seems to work fine now....

Hello,
First of all you want to make sure you are using the most up to date drivers.
Please make sure you are using these drivers http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public/us/ca/en/dlf/dlf/000000/004300/dlf004335.html?reg=us&c=ca&lang=en&prod=mfc8220_us&type2=1&os=92&flang=8&dlid=dlf004335
If this does not help, please try using a different USB cable.
Also make sure you are not using a parallel cable or a parallel to USB converter and you want to make sure you are not conencted to a USB hub.
Thanks,
Pat

It's possible that there is a problem with the universal serial bus controllers, when you connect directly with a USB cable there is more of a current going through the cable. With a parallel to USB cable there is no current and so the conflict does not happen.

Happy to see the it's now working for you.

How to set the date and the time in brother fax mfc-8220? what's the steps?

Your MFC displays the date and time and if you set up the Station ID
it prints on every fax you send. If there is a power failure, you may
have to reset the date and time. All other settings will not be affected.
1 Press Menu, 0, 2.
2 Enter the last two digits of the year.
Press Set.
3 Enter two digits for the month.
Press Set.
(For example, enter 09 for September, or 10 for October.)
4 Enter two digits for the day.
Press Set.
(For example, enter 06 for 6th.)
5 Enter the time in 24-Hour format.
Press Set.
(For example, enter 15:25 for 3:25 P.M.)
6 Press Stop/Exit.
The LCD now shows the date and time whenever the MFC is in
Standby mode.

thx, if this helps please rate :)

The LCD screen keep displaying "Printing" but

I have seen this so many times I thought I would post an answer on this so you can repair your Brother MFC series machine that says printing and will not function. Using this procedure will save you from having to call out a service technician. Any time your machine says "printing" and will not do anything simply turn off the power. Now hold down the red clear/stop button WHILE turning the power back on. Continue holding the clear key for a few seconds then release. Your "printing" message should be gone and your machine should be back at the ready screen.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya!

Here's the manual. Look at page 6-8. That tells how to turn on real-time transmission. You just need to do the same thing, except switch it to off when you get to that step. http://www.brother.ca/en/products/pdf/manuals/MFC8220-UG.pdf
