HighnTools posted this solution a while ago. There are so many people having similar issues. This might be related to your problem: I have finally fixed my sister's dyson dc 15 beater bar problem. It was just 2 tiny broken wires connect to circuit board lead to the beater bar. The wires broke where they go through the black rubber gommet. You need a torx screwdriver tx 15 to remove 2 plastic covers to access the wires. When looking at the front of the vacuum, the gray covers located on the right side of the vacuum. 1 big cover with a black rubber gasket and other small gray cover is on the rotating ball area.

The above by highntools.

Beater bar turning on and off. Why doesn't the vacuum?

Try wiggling the wire and where the hose swivels to attempt to determine where it may be shorting out. It could be the wire or the plugs where the wires connect if your model has them. Inspect these areas closely to find your short.

Beater bar only spins when vacuum is locked & upright.

Your belt is probably stretched and can't turn the brush when it's on the floor. Replace the belt at least twice per year.

I purchased a Eureka C4910 last year and have a question that I am hoping you can answer. There are two motor actions with this vacuum, 1) the vacuum suction, and 2) the beater bar. The action of the...

Good day!

Normally when the motor is easily moved back and forth means that it have a proper lubrication, proper alignment and no clogs.

When the motor and the belt is OK the problem could be on electrical wiring and switch.

If found electrical switch burned out you need to replaced it because when the switch is burn the contact of that switch is open even you turn it ON.that's why the motor is not function because the voltage is not pass through the circuit because of open switch. You need to replaced it.
And check some fuses if any and other burned electrical wire.Replaced it also.

I have a Dyson Animal bagless vaccume and can not get the beater bar to work. I have cleaned it really good and seems that it doesn't switch from bare floor to carpet

Is this a new vacuum for you, or are you familiar with how it works? The beater bar button is on the front of the handle. It is a large half button with the picture of a beater bar on it. This button has to be pushed down for the bar to work.

If you already knew this and your vacuum is one you have had for awhile, it may have a worn or broken belt. The manual should tell you how to replace the belt, and you should be able to purchase one through the dyson website http://dyson.com under PARTS or at the store where you purchased the vacuum.

Please let me know if this works for you.

I have a dyson animal (purple) "the ball" vacuum and now when I push the button to turn off the beater bar it turns off my vacuum. Help?

There is a linkage between the on/off and the beater bar switch that probably has came loose or is broken. It also could be wires shorting out.

Beater bar won't work. Have done all checks in manual. Bar is clean, belt seems to be connected properly and in good shape. Any ideas? John Rike jjnrike@yahoo.com

Hi, I would have to say, that if the roller-brush Is clean and the belt is on and in good shape, that the problem will be in the vacs motor assembly itself. If the motor comes on, the beater bar will engage and pick up debris. If it is coming on and not rolling, it it damaged internally. If the unit will not come on at all, you can pull out the on/off switch and try to bypass to see if unit starts, and if so replace switch. If you have excess to a volt meter you can check for power at the switch.Touch one lead to one terminal and the other to ground, should be 120v.Same coming out. If motor doesn't come on at all, more then likely, it has died on you, open windings, shorted to ground and will need replaced. Not knowing the cost off hand of this machine, I would compare prices of a motor to a new one.I hate to give you this news, But If the switch is good, and the motor is off, it has failed on you.Try and do the checks and get back to me, so we can be for sure on it. Sincerely,

Low suction

Hi, You can take care of both things at once. Here's how:
Unplug and flip your vacuum over, beater bar side up. Remove the cover base plate that surrounds your beater bar. It's held on with either clips or screws, and usually "hinges" toward the front of the vacuum to release when the clips/screws are undone. Remove the base plate. The beater bar sits in sockets where it fits into the vacuum. Pay particular attention to how it comes out as you remove the beater bar, so it will be much easier to put it back together. If your belt is good, it will want to come off with the beater bar, but will remain attached to the motor. If necessary, slip the belt off of the beater bar. Behind the beater bar, you'll see a cavity. This is where the vacuum pulls the dirt from the beater bar. Look up into the cavity; stuff almost always hangs up in there. Remove any debris that you can find. While you have your beater bar out, look at the ends, where it fits into the sockets. Hair and other material catches on the beater bar and winds around it. If it is in and around the sockets, it causes the vacuum to have to work harder to clean. Remove any debris that you find on either end. Get your new belt and place it on the motor shaft. Slip the beater bar into the belt, and install the beater bar and sockets back into the vacuum frame. It takes patience so don't worry if it takes a few tries to get it right. Once in, test your work by revolving the beater bar a bit with your hand. You should be able to feel the tension of the belt as it turns the bar and the motor shaft. Take one more look at the sockets, just to be sure that they are in the proper place, and that the beater bar is level in the frame. Reinstall the base plate. This should have you finished at this end.

How do I change the belt on the motor?

Hi. This is easily done. Flip the vacuum over, beater bar up. With the machine unplugged, locate the screws or tabs that hold the base plate on, surrounding the beater bar. Remove the plate. The beater bar is held in place by fitting into sockets that then fit into the vacuum frame, so be careful in removing the beater bar. Pay close attention to the sockets, so you can get the bar assembly back in easily. Replace the belt. When you fit it over the motor shaft, you'll have to slip the belt onto the beater bar, and fit the bar into the frame at the same time. Reinstall the plate, and test your work by revolving the beater brush a bit by hand......If you're satisfied, you should be good to go!

The agitator on my kenmore progressive vacuum won't keep going. It keeps stopping while vacuuming.

This sounds like the belt that drives the beater bar on the vacuum. The beater bar bearings and brushes could be plugged with debris and/or the belt is simply worn out and needs to be replaced. Unplug the vacuum, turn it over and look for clogging.

If you can't see any, then you may need to remove the bottom plate of the vacuum and clean out and/or replace the drive belt and clean the area. These belts and other components are usually available at Sears Hardware or main stores. Make sure you get the correct belt for your vacuum.

If the beater bar brushes are substantially worn, it would also be a good idea to replace the beater bar as well. These parts wear out after a few years. Try to work on the unit in a location that is well ventilated and the debris doesn't make a mess inside your house.

How do i change the belt on the bissell powersteamer 1697w????

Ok taking the cover off is good. I believe the the little red thing is the beater bar. This beater bar has brushes on it an extends the width of the vacum. Pull the beater bar out straight. Some times it is tight. Next is to place the new belt around the spindle in the back and slide the beatrer bar into the belt. No twists! Besure to have the beater bar with the seperated area with no brushes inline with the belt. Now place the beater bar in place. Make sure you turn the beater bar so on the side the slotted portion slides all the way in place. Replace your cover. Turn it on and try it.
I believe this will work. Let me know.
