Hello,

There will be more works to install an internal hard drive. You need to back up your data in the old drive, install the operating system in new drive, and copy back your data. I will think buying an external hard drive will be better options (or an usb hard drive enclosure and hard drive buying separately).

My Seagate ST3200822AS 200 GB Hard Drive appears to only have 13.6 GB of disk space

When you look at the hard drive make certain you can see all the files including Hidden files. I suspect you might have either back up files on it, or system files.
To show the files to do this (In Windows 7) by opening windows Explorer and going to where it says "organise" and clicking on it then selecting "folder and Search options".
Click view, then select "show hidden files, folders and drives.
PLUS
Deselect by clicking it - "Hide protected operating system files"
Windows will warn you but click apply.
Next when you look at that drive all files will be shown.
You can then select and delete the files you want to get rid of.
REMEMBER to return the two above options to there correct settings when you have done or you could delete files on the rest of you system you need.
Alternatively.....
It should be possible to wipe all these hidden files, by doing a reformat of the drive.

File size limit for Buffalo HD 250 GB Hard Drive backup

The file is too large meaning that the size of that SINGLE file is too large. Your hard disk is probably formatted to a FAT32 file system, this results in a maximum of 4gb PER FILE maximum transfer. What you could do is archive it into a few parts using winrar and then moving it onto the disk, and when you need the file just extract the archive. Your problem isn't the total free space, it's the size of that file chunk.

Incorrect GB space free amount and space used. Doesnt change as I delete more files.

You may have hidden files on the drive. Unhide them by hitting the Alt key and going to tools

Select Folder Options

Go to "View" and select the two indicated options below and hit OK.

This will unhide what ever files you have. If you dont find the files taking up your space, just copy what ever files you need to your hard drive temporarily or another USB drive and format the disk.

My transcend 500 gb hard drive doesn't open in any computer. Just shows localdisk(E:) without showing the storage space. It doesn't even gets removed from the laptop i.e. when i click on remove...

Are you able to format the drive again? You may have corrupted the storage space by removing the drive improperly, especially if the file transfer did not finish exiting before you removed the drive. Reformatting the drive would fix this problem.

I have a problem with the HD. It is not working.

Well the hard drive on the laptop now is 40 GB. It is an ATA hard drive so you need to buy an ATA hard drive of xx gb. You choose the capacity, but considering the characteristics of your laptop it should be fine a 80 GB or 120 GB. (i mean the RAM is only 256MB and the data transfer will be slow).
It you need further assistance, leave a comment. Cheers

Additional hard drive needed

Just buy a new SATA HD of what ever capacity fits your budget. Keep the old one as it works with your setup. There is no point causing extra work for yourself.

Power off the computer. Conenct Power to the drive and a SATA cable to the new drive (should be supplied with it) and the motherboard. Power on the computer and then format the new drive. The drive letter will be assigned by the Operating System. Once completed you have a new drive to use.

Dead hard drive, replacement not working

The solution is that you simply cannot go out and buy a replacement HD. You have to buy TOSHIBA's replacement HD.

They make a 40, 80, 160 and 320 GB HD for Tecra MV2's etc.- Other HDs simply will not detect.

Free Space problem

Running at that low of free space is a bad thing to begin with. You didn't specify if it's your primary drive, internal or external, or anythign, but I'm going to assume it's the one with Windows/Operating system on it.

Most modern operating systems need a few hundred megabytes, if not more, as "swap" or "temp" space. When your drive drops down to the levels you seem to be at you can get problems liek that which you mentioned, due to free space allocation for temp files, and whatnot.

Without more detail, like which operating system, type of HD, HD use, type of file you're saving and total space on the HD, I am afraid I can't help more.

For now I suggest deleting some old files, emptying your trash can/recycle bin, or simply restarting (if you don't do that much) to clear the cache.
