Depending on what you want to do you can just get a cheap pci or agp card find out what ports your system has if it will support a pci-e card or not then decide what you want it for like gaming go with a more expensive card that has 512mb of ram if your just doing the basics the get one with around 128mb of ram that will do just fine

The colour is all messed up. How do I restore factory settings

Laptop colors are not result of setup. If you are getting distorted colors, probably you have some problem with your graphic card. You should check if your Grapic card is removible and in this case you can get a new one, or it is integrated to board. Bad news is that In most cases, it isn't possible remove a laptop's graphics card. If you want better gaming performance, the only sensible option is to buy a new laptop. The vast majority of laptops have integrated graphics, which means the GPU (graphics processing unit) is permanently attached to the motherboard, and not removable.

Hi, Have a Acer Veriton M464, fully up to date Bios, Chip, the works. Bought a nice cheap graphics card to mess around with "XFX nVidia GeForce 8500GT" Inserted into my PCI slot, Vista won't detect it,...

Its possible that your video card is not compatible with your motherboard. Yes, this sometimes happens, the board manufacturer needs to update their BIOS if this kinds of things happen. Another possibility is that you have a bad graphics card. If its Brand new then its probably a lemon. Go to your friends house and test your graphics card and see if it works. This would isolate the problem.

I hope this helps. Have a nice day.

Washed out colors, solids in wireframe

Hello and thank you for using Fixya's services.

This can be caused by your video graphics card. You may want to contact Autodesk for a list of "certified" graphics card. They will send to you via email. If the card is not certified, then the program will not allow you to adjust the settings for 3D enhancements such as open GL.

You can also try messing with the resolution in the setting box to see if the generic defaults are on. This can be located under tools or view tab.

Please let me know if you have any questions and I can assist.
