You need to set the drive, scan it frome windows, or look at the device managment, disk managment located under administrative tools, your new hard drive should be listed there as unhealty or unformated, format it and it should work fine.

Wont recognize hard drive

If you recently bought it from a store or online it might just be a bad hard drive which happens. If your bios wont recognize it then it might just be an error with the bios firmware which can be updated from the manufaturers site.

My Fujitsu MHZ2080BH G2 Hard Drive Froze Up and when I rebooted it reported that the hard drive was not found. I ordered an exact replacement drive and tried to pirate the circuit board from the new drive...

With the new controller card attached to the old drive, try to attach the hard drive to another computer via a EIDE/SATA to USB adapter, this way the other computer will read the drive as an external. Now open up Administrator tools in the control panel and click on computer management, then click on disc management. All drives attached to the computer will show here, whether they are active or not. Now find your drive, it will probably show up in the lower column with a drive number but no letter. Right click in the square where it says drive is "offline" click on initialize drive, follow the prompts and click on what ever it suggests. If it goes through the drive is initialized, if it comes up and says "drive not ready", then it means the control card swap sis not work and the drive is a complete loss. Your only option at that point is data recovery in a "clean room" facility.

My computer wont boot because it wont automatically detect my har

Usually when your BIO's doesn't detect the hard drives is usually a good indicator that the hard drive has failed. In rare instants it is the motherboard. In the boot sequence it will only show the hard drives it sees if it doesn't see any then none will be shown. I would start with a new hard drive.

Hope this helps.

Hard drive not recognized in setup

Hi Rick

It seems like you have a faulty HDD which will not initialise properly as a result of internal defect. Have you tried shaking the drive, which sometimes settles the HDD. Try nudging it against your hand.

If this does not solve the problem you will require a new drive as repair may make it uneconomical.

Let us know if this helps. Good luck.

Dell 2400 wont recognize harddrive

I don't know how old the Dell is but I have not seen a BIOS setup routine that did not automatically find and recognize a new hard drive for many years. Perhaps the BIOS is the source of the problem.  Did you try the removed drive in another system? Did you check the CMOS backup battery? If this needs to be replaced, it may not recognize much of anything.

XP won't recognize 2nd SATA drive and shows 1st SATA drive as drive F:

To get Windows to recognize the 2nd HDD, you have to initialize it in disk management.

http://www.simplyguides.net/guides/prepare_second_hdd/prepare_second_hdd1.shtml

As far as the drive letter for the OS install, that was caused by the HDD not having an existing partition and other drives in the system having one (Either USB Drive, Printer with a card reader, 2nd Internal HDD)

Here is a Microsoft article on how to change it, but you'll notice MS doesn't recommend you try it. (Personally, I can live with ah HDD with a drive letter other then C:, so can Windows.)

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/223188/en-us

In the future, when installing XP, boot to the CD, run the install to the point of formatting the hard drive. Once formatted, turn off the computer, reboot to the XP install again, the HDD will be assigned C:

As far as the drivers go, they needed to be installed in this order:
Desktop System Software
Chipset
Video
Audio
Network
Modem

Can't Connect

Hi Jesse. Have you tried, or can you try the drive on another computer ? That's a good way to check if the drive itself is getting defective. I'd try that one first ! It could be also the firewire cable, have you tried another one ? Else, it could be the hard drive in the lacie inclosure that's getting weak (you might wanna backup your data if you ever get it to be recognized, if there's anything that's important on it), or the lacie enclosure's firewire controller that's doing freegames. I've seen such problems more than often, and if nothing has changed in your setup since it was working, i'm betting on the failed drive. They aren't that reliable as we know. Hope that helps a bit. Thanks! cheebster.
