Question about Car Audio & Video
HI. I have an expedition of the same make and model. unfortunately, this issue with the radio is a common issue with this actual stereo package. The logic chip that controls all functions of the affected stereo, in your case, has failed. This will occur repeatedly when the stereo temperature reaches normal operating status. It is a basic cold solder break that has separated the logic chip from its seated position on the micro board.
The only option for me in this case was to replace the entire stereo system in my expedition. I was unable to repair the damage, due to the fact that the board is not replaceable. Ford will re-issue the same stereo for a small fee, if the vehicle is under an extended warranty package that covers all electronics. If you do not have this warranty package, you will be responsible for the total replacement cost of this defective stereo system. You will only need to replace the in dash stereo, and not the speakers or any other attached accessories.
