SOURCE: Worn gears

I would just buy a new one.
parts could cost almost as much.
don't forget the rest of the grinder is just as worn out too

How do I replace the big gear on a makita 9557nb grinder

After taking the bearig box off the head, remove the retaining ring and wave washer on top of the gear. Some spindles can be tapped out of the gear with a hammer but be extremely careful not to mushroom the spindle head. It's best to take it off with a hydraulic press. There is a woodruff key in there so be careful not to loose that when you press the spindle out of the gear. The new gear should be pressed back on also.

How do you remove the front rearend crown and pinion on 1997 gmc serria 4x4 1500 pick-up

That indicates a bad pinion bearing. On this rear end it is usually necessary to replace the ring and pinion gears as well as the bearings becasue when the pinion bearing goes bad it will spin on the pinion gear itself causing it to wear thus just replacing the bearing will not work because it will fit loose on the pinion gear and it needs to be pressed on tight. ---------- First the c-clips are to be removed from the pinion gears.-------- Click this link below and follow the detailed procedure:---- http://technoanswers.blogspot.com/2011/07/how-to-remove-rear-end-crown-and-pinion.html -------------- This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

How do you remove the crown gear?

The gear on the end of the armature is held on by a metric nut. The armature shaft is threaded. The larger gear is press fit onto the shaft. You need a hydrolic press to remove it.

Black & Decker 4 1/2 grinder gets very hot when in use

You will see vents near the head of the grinder. Make sure your hands are not blocking when in use. Also another thing I like to do with my grinders is removed the head cover (gear box) and replace the lube with a good grade of grease. I suspect if you open yours it will look like an orange wax substance. Clean and re-lube. They do run on the warm side.

How to replace main bearing in a Makita GA5000 5'' angle grinder. I removed the clip in the gear head but can't remove the gear to pull the armature. The main armature bearing in the gear head is shot.

i used to grab the armature and tap the housing off with a rubber hammer...

try tapping in opposite corners every time....

when it does fall have a cushion ready on the bench or floor to catch it...
