GE PDS18SBMARBS Does not get get Cold Enough

I have a GE PDS18SBMARBS Refrigerator. Freezer appears to be ok, but fridge no longer can go below 44degrees even when set on 9 for coldest on both. Service came, inspected coils, looked ok, and wound up replacing thermostat which had no effect. Any suggestions would be greatly apprechiated, 3 repair people have now been to the house and still not working properly.

SOURCE: Refrigerator not cold.

if the freezer section is still working ok then check for ice build up inside freezer on the back wall, its possible that the unit is not defrosting and ice is building up on the cooling coils, the most common culprit is the def thermostat. easiest way for you to get it going again fast is to manually def the coil.

remove the 2 screws about half way down the back freezer wall. then using a blow dryer def the ice from the coil.

since this refrig has an electronic def control i would recomend calling a reputable service company to check it further for you..

SOURCE: GE refrigerator not cold enough, again!

I emptied the freezer, unscrewed the freezer floor, pushed it out of the way, and saw the ice, just like last time. So I poured hot water over the ice, made sure the ice was all melted, even from below (under refrigerator), and put the floor back in - works fine, for now!

The "damper" that open and closes is not working. It is controlled electronically with a thermostat. Here is the part to order.

All parts come with a 365 day, any part, any reason return policy

I have a GE Profile freezer on the bottom refrigerator model #PDS18SBMARBS. A fan was runnining on the inside of the fridge seemed to be between the fridge and freezer. It was very loud and now does not...

Could be a bad fan motor. A bad defrost part or a bad control board.
Check for ice buildup on the back wall of the freezer. If so you have bad defrost parts or a bad control board.
Enter your model number at www.appliancepartspros.com to find the exploded view to dis-assemble the freezer. You can also order parts from them.

Freezer no longer freezing and refrigerator is not cold enough either.

  1. check if the evaporator fan motor is running (inside the freezer)
  2. Same for the condenser fan motor on the bottom in the back of the fridge
  3. Clean condenser coils underneath or in the back of the fridge
  4. if there is a frost on the back wall in freezer - you've got the defrost problem, check defrost heater, defrost bimetal thermostat, and defrost timer

It's likely the door was inadvertently left open, and the cold air passages from the freezer have built up enough ice that the cold air from the freezer has no way to enter the refrigerator. Check the cealing of the refrigerator. If you can see or feel ice in the passages between the freezer and fridge, you can probably solve the problem by finding a safe temporary home for your food, and leaving the refrigerator unplugged overnight.
