Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

Hi, I have an Sony XGA VPL-PX30 projector that I just bought for relatively inexpensively. I was hoping to just get a little use out of it, not much, but when I turn it on there is a greenish/yellowish color that covers most of the screen with a few blue rectangles mixed in. The picture is visible behind that, but obviously the coloring is all off. I opened up the unit and saw what I believe is referred to as an optical box behind the lens. It appears the color pattern is burned into the glass or mirrored on the glass in that box. I guess my question is, whether that box is in fact to blame and if so, can it be replaced? If not, what else might be causing this condition and can I get it fixed? Thank you, Jason

Hi,
It is problem of optical unit, there are 3 lcds around prism and few polorizors inside optical block that will be replaced but it requires expertise and Sony designed special tools for adjustment after replacement bad parts.
You can replace complete optical block if you want to fix it, part number is as follows:
175844011... OPTICAL UNIT (VPL-PX30)

Just for your info, I'm posting exploded view of optical block that shows how many parts are inside optical block.

Hope these info will help you.
Thanks.

Thank you for the quick reply, and I appreciate all the information. Seeing as this is a repair that Sony must make, I'm wondering what it might cost? Do you think it will be so expensive as to not be worth it?

    Thank you again, Jason

Yes, Sony service center can fix it but would cost you more then worth of projector.

Hello, good day. My problem is relationship my sony xga vpl - ex7 not turn on. Only lighting the lamp/cover.

Hi,
Either lamp is dead/ broken in projector or lamp cover is not fixed properly (its located at bottom side)
Please check lamp and replace it if its broken and make sure lamp cover is fixed back on its location securely after lamp replacement/ checking.
Thanks.
