Why the heat exchanger between the freezer section and the fridge section freezes up around the second element closer to the door and makes ice on the roof of the fridge section.

If your freezer is icing up it is the defrost mechanism consisting of the timer, heating element, and defrost thermostat.

When you unplug unit everything melts and it runs fine for a few days till it freezes up again.

Usually it is the heating element that just burns out and has to be replaced.

My GE fridge is leaking water on the freezer side

Hi,

This would be due to the defrost drain being clogged. The automatic defrost cycle melts the frost on the evaporator every few hours and the water from that is suppose to flow down a drain tube, if the drain becomes restricted the water will leak out the freezer door. Here is a link to some instructions I put together on how to clean it out.

Water coming out from underneath

there is an auto defrost on the evaporator coils that melts away any ice or frost buildup. after it melts, it drains into a condensate pan under the fridge to be evaporated by the hot gas line coming out of the high pressure side of the compressor. if there was too much ice, there is too much water that might be overflowing out of the pan (or the fridge is tipped). to avoid ice buildup, make sure the seals on the fridge doors are air tight.

Hello azcowgirl19

Welcome to fixya,

You said, You have a GE Profile side/side refrigerator which was delivered on 4/19/08. When the ice comes down the chute it makes a lot of noise - so much noise that you cannot hear another person speak within the same room. Is there anyway that this clattering can be cushioned?
Also, the ice seems to clump up into a large ball and when it tries to go threw the coils, it shakes and rattles the entire appliance. Other than removing the lg clump of ice is there anyway to prevent this?

Yes I do recognize the problem.
The ice maker has a couple of defective parts in it!
Lucky for you you still have a warranty for this GE Profile fridge and did not waste anytime looking into it!
In the USA, Call GE at 1(800) GE CARES , and tell them the ice maker has multiple problems so they can service it while you still have your full parts and labor warranty!

Let me know how it goes!
Please remember to leave a rating at our site before you leave!
Thank You, Huuum
