Question about Philips DVP642 DVD Player

1 Answer

Weird actions Played a dvd with new technology to prevent copying. It froze when I tried to play it on my laptop. So I played it on my philips dvp642. The dvd played fine, except the player would not respond to the remote. I thought the remote went bad, so I purchased a new one. The next time I tried to play a dvd, it did not show a picture, only wavey colors. I tried another dvd, and the same thing happened. Not only that, but when I removed the dvd pulled one of the connections partially out of the socket, the main page of the dvd was still on screen. It was clear, not distortion at all. Does this have to do with firmware? If so, Philips no longer has firmware for this unit. Can someone give me a possible solution?

    This is bffy!

I discovered the solution on my own. I crossed wires when I made the connections. I plugged in a white connection where I should have plugged in a yellow connection. Ooops!

Just put in a cleaning disc to your DVD player, and play it for at least three times, and check. If this does not help you, the laser pickup unit of your DVD player is faulty, and should be replaced with same type and number. OK.

I have a Philips DVP642 DVD player. It has worked

First try a soft reset... unplug for 20 minutes.
Otherwise - the laser is dirty or misaligned.
A Repair shop can clean and align for about $50.
It takes specialized equipment and templates to align the laser - not something you can do on your own.

Lens cleaner discs don't work.
