Question about Brother Office Equipment & Supplies
According to the Service manual, when you install the new toner cartridge the drum unit is supposed to be reset automatically. If you go to the following page:
In the box beside the word Enter type in Brother MFC-7420, and then press the Search button. Once the search is complete you will see a listing like the one I will attach to the end of this note. You need to download all three parts of the file, then unpack the file with whatever program you have to work with RAR files. You will end up with the complete Service Manual for your printer. Page 3-13 of the manual explains what is supposed to take place when you insert your new toner cartridge. Page 9-25 explains what you can do to try and resolve the issue of the new toner not resetting the counter. You can then decide whether you want to try and repair it yourself or have a tech look at it for you.
Here is the image of what the three files will look like after your search:

The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
