Hi,

The problem is due to air not flowing from the freezer (where all the cooling coils are located) to the fresh food section. This could be due to a couple things.

First look in the freezer section behind the food and shelves to the back panel, what you want to see is if there is a frost build up. If so then we have a defrost problem, as these units are suppose to turn a heater on every 8 hours or so and remove the frost from the coils, if this does not happen frost will block the air flow through the coils and even stop the fan. If you have frost there, unplug the refrigerator, take everything out of the freezer and take the panel off of the back wall inside the freezer. Unthaw the ice and frost, you will see a heater just below the coils, that will most likely be the culprit.

If you do not see frost the fan has most likely failed, the fan is located just above the coils we described above.

The last thing I will mention and check this first is the condenser coils (these are the coils on the back or under the refrigerator, make sure they are clean and if you have the coils under the refrigerator there will be a fan down there that should be running too.

Let me know if you have questions about any of this.

I think it's the freezer fan that stopped working, open the freezer and see if it goes you should hear it running and even see. This fan allows the cold air into the fridge compartment, without it it takes ages for the fridge to get cold.I've got the same problem if you find the motor online let me know on alvalen31@hotmail.com

I have a GE side by side Fridg.that is approx 7-8yrs old.The freezer side is working fine but the fridg. side is not cooling. staying at about 50 degrees just barely cool.. This seemed to happened...

Setting the cooling setting up all the way will not help at all.Make sure your freezer and refrigerator controls are about the same setting. Temp. settings for refrigerator should be between 38-42.degree at medium.. Freezer about 0 to -10.If it is a simple fix this will help.

My GE profile side by side refrigerator's temperature is not staying where I put it. It keeps popping to 31 degrees when I set it for 37 degrees. My food is freezing !!

It may need to defrost. Shut it off for 4-5 hours to let any accumulated ice to defrost and see what happens.

There also is a control that directs more cooling to the refridgerator or the freezer compartment. It may need to be readjusted. It will take 24 hours to stabilize.

Fridge doesn't get cold enough

you have either a Defrost heater / a defrost timer/ or a defrost bi-metal that is bad. if you post your model # i can look it up and show you how to set it into defrost to see if the heaters are ok
Since you replaced the timer already that leaves two things you need to check set it into defrost if you know how and remove the panel in the back wall of the freezer you should see the heater(s) are on if not check pwr 120vac at the heaters if 0 volts the bi-metal is bad

Freezer works, fan works, fridge side not getting cold

Whip, make sure the condensor fan is running in back. It should be running anytime the compressor is running. Check to see if you have a buildup of frost on the back of the freezer panel, this could indicate a defrost issue. This refer is controlled by one main mother board in back. Check these things first and post back. You may have to do some tests on the board...Catriver..post back.
