Question about Whirlpool Dryers
Whirlpool electric dryer Model GEQ9858JQ1 will start when button presses but will not continue running when released.
The problem you are describing is one of two components.
- #1 and most likely is the motor relay part number 3405281, it is located under the console, there are 2 relays that are identical under there. They both will have 4 wires. The one you will be looking at is the one where 2 of the wires are blue. NOT the one that has 2 of wires red. If you are comfortable with electrical circuits and understand this you can bypass the relay to test only!! Jump the blue wires and see if the motor stays on, if it does the relay is bad. Please be careful and do not jump something with the power on! Make tests and take things apart with the dryer unplugged
- #2 Motor, part number 661654, not likely but the main windings can be bad, it is a bit tricky to test this. To check you need to remove the wire harness from the motor and use an ohm meter to check from where the white wire and the blue wires were connected to the motor, you should get under 5 ohms.
