have not tried bypassing the switch, i don't know how easy that will be considering its full of water and I don't know how to do that

  • k_stark918 May 11, 2010

oh, ok. we had tried that before we started looking for answers and the switch seems to work fine. my husband thinks it could be the knob. he pushed it in and turned it, then pulled it back out to restart the machine and it worked. when he tried the same thing again, nothing happened.

  • k_stark918 May 11, 2010

sorry about the confusion. the washer is not working, it just happened to turn on for a few seconds when my husband turned the knob, but then (and now) nothing.

  • k_stark918 May 11, 2010

ok, i just tried the washer again and now it will try to start, and i hear a humming noise, but nothing is happening..could it be over heated/ing?

there are really just tow possibility's here, one is the washer timer motor has failed, the other is the lid safety cutoff switch is defective, have you tried bypassing the lid switch with a piece of wire to see if it runs?

the switch is in a slot under the lid, it is high and dry, stick something down there to depress the switch, u will feel the switch it is spring loaded

sounds like the washer cycle timer is defective, a little confused by your reply, so the machine is working right now?

Remember without being there to do hands on testing this is a educated guess based on what symptoms u have, u may have other parts that need replacing, I strongly suggest a qulaified service tech do the final diagnosis before u purchase any parts.

Be sure there is power is coming from wall outlet and be sure breaker hasn't tripped. Also if there is a loose connection where cord was installed to unit, there may be a burnt wire.

Completely dead and lid is locked

Try an extension cord to another powerpoint. Place the drain hose in a bucket and slowly lower it to the floor, lift it up when the bucket is full, continue till the washer is empty or no more water will come out. Turn the washer off at thew wall and unplug it, wait a few minutes and plug it back in, this may reset the machine so it starts working again.
Hope this helps

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,

This is symptomatic of a water control valve not closing completely- its no power/fail position is closed.
Whichever it is, hot or cold, needs replacing!

Drum smells like rotten eggs - perhaps the water is not draining completly - only smells if the machine has not been used in a few days and is the only spot in the house that smells - we have city water...

Run a hot wash or soak as your last cycle on wash day. If the unit is not regularly used an extra rinse is a good idea. If odor comes back there is still remaining residue. The area you need to concentrate on is always just 3 to 5 inches above the normal waterline where suds and soiled water splash up. If nothing else works this "splash area" can be cleaned by added a washer cleaner to a full load of laundry. The added bulk of the laundry will raise the water level to include the splash area. Intermittently pausing and restarting the washer to soak works for extreme cases.

Fisher Paykel will not drain

I had the same problem. After cut the power off for at least 60 seconds and then back on, as the manual suggests, the problem remained. Therefore I started putting the clothes out and bailing the water out. Once the water was down about half way the pump started working. I suspect the sensor was "stuck". I cycled the washer without clothes and it worked fine. Still working after several loads of laundry. The water level sensor will probably need replacing sometime soon.

Front loader locks, but nothing else. Please help!

ck to see if water still in tub if so remove as much as possible then remove bottom cover and clean pump..if you are washing baby clothes use mesh laundry bag for small items such as socks they tend to plug up pumps easily
