If the repair failed, you will need to do a repair install.

Instructions here.

If the "repair - install" process fails you will need to reformat and reinstall XP - unless you can somehow rebuild the damage to the file allocation tables. The ultimate boot disk and some others have repair utilities, but there are no guarantees.

If that doesn't work the drive is actually unrecoverable; but at least take solace that if this is the case, the drive had more serious underlying issues than just a failed update and a similar failure was probably imminent regardless of what you did.

OK, I'm assuming the repair-install failed and you couldn't mount the drive at all.

    Using the boot utilities...

    1. Download the ultimate boot CD iso file from online. You will need to have someone burn that "iso" to a CD if you have no other computer to use.

    2. Boot to the CD and it will give you a variety of tools. Open the Disk tools; and run a scan on the drive. It will tell you if the drive is recoverable. If it fails to even run a scan the drive is toast...but hopefully you will be able to move any damaged sectors to the end of the drive.

    3. Once done. Either reinstall using the recovery disks or re-boot to the install CD for windows XP and do a full install.

    4. Delete the partition and recreate it. this will remove any corruption on the drive.

    5. Recreate the partition and install to that partition. (PS: You may want to reserve a small amount of the space to make a second drive.)

    6. Re-install your drivers and your applications.

Later you can setup the second drive to make a backup partition that may remain readable and even boot-able, if you have another crash in the future.

Asked about an update and i said no and bow it won't turn on at all

Sometimes computers will automatically download your update even though you say no. Sometimes it will download your updates when you start up your computer and you have to wait. Depending on how many updates and how long it's been between updates it may take several minutes or may take several hours. On the other hand, there may have been a glitch and your computer stalled. You can hold the power button in for 3 seconds or more and the computer should automatically shut off. This is not recommended on a daily basis.
It's frustrating, but happens to the best of us.

This is most likely a hardware issue that coincidentally happened at the same time as you were restarting your computer. Something inside your computer could be having problems or overheating. I would guess power supply first. Try this though, as it just might need to be reset:

1) Unplug the computer power cord from the wall for 1 minute. Plug it back in to the wall. Try to start your computer. If this does not resolve your issue...try step 2.

2) You need to reset your BIOS. Refer to the follow link to accomplish this: Reset BIOS HowTo

Let me know how you make out.

Stopping Windows updates

Go to Control Panel --> go to Security Center --> Automatic Updates and go to it's options, properties or preferences page. Select "Turn off automatic updates"

A sidenote though, I honestly do not think your online virus scan is reliable. If you update by using Windows Update or Microsoft Update there will be no virusses. There's a big change the scanner itself is harmful software named Scareware (it tells you something is wrong, or potentionally harmful, then it tells you to download an exotic virusscanner or something to protect you but infect creates even more trouble by means of spam, spyware, pop-ups or trojans.)

Try installing a virus scanner from a trustes developer. Don't want to pay for it? Don't worry. There are some pretty good (and trusted) free ones.

Try this one:

Samsung V25 Laptop When it is powered up nothing is showing on the screen although the power light is on and you can hear a noise. This has happened before and it just came on.

One way to make sure the system is still working, remove the Batery, then plug the power adapter only and turn the computer back on, normally if the laptop goes into Hybernation mode and the battery is low on power this can happen. If that fixes the system then you can do a safe shutdown and re-install the battery and turn your laptop on and it should come on, the fact that you mentioned this has happened before makes me believe it is Hybernation issue. Good Luck.

Won't turn on

Ok I had same problem, Zen V Plus wouldn't switch on, when plugged into PC no lights came nothing, absolutly dead. Found this on another website and well i'll be jiggered it worked, hope it does for you too.

Plug it into the PC, hold the power switch in the 'on' position, THEN trigger the reset button, (hold it in for a few seconds). make sure you feel the reset button depress.

Good Luck
