Perform a hard reset on the unit. To perform this, turn the unit off and unplug it if its plugged into a power source. Touch and hold the lower right hand corner of the screen, and while holding here turn the unit on. When prompted to erase user data tap yes and allow the system to restart.
If that does not work you can also try here https://my.garmin.com/maps/unlockMaps.htm
I appear to have the same issue with mine. I purchased mine from Audio Itch in Tampa, Fl in December of 2008 and had them install it with an amp and speakers. Worked fine for almost exactly a year. Upon starting up my car, it powered up and gave the system powering up notice, then went blank. Rebooting with the small restart pinhole button sometimes works, but most of the time it will start powering up again, then shut off????
if you have your users manual i would refer to the troubleshooting section or contact the manufacture of the device.
If nothing else find your reset button and press it in for 2 min and restart the system, also if you totally unplug the system overnight some of these units have a automatic factory reset function that is built in once it is unplugged for several hours the unit will reset it'self back to factory conditions ok? so please try the advice i have provided and please rate the solutions that i have provided this helps me out as well as you .

We did not get a solution in the chat room. So we returned the unit to Costco and things are fine with the new unit although the return guy seem surprised that the fault could be in the unit itself. Thanks anyway.. Do we get that refund?
