Won't pump water, stalls engine if trigger not squeezed

Had it stored for winter in garage, pulled it out yesterday to use and engine started for about 1 sec then quit and noticed it was harder to pull over, discovered if I squeeze the trigger to release water pressure the engine pulls over easily and starts but then stalls from the pressure build up and if I keep the trigger squeezed it will pressure wash for about 2 seconds then quits putting out any water from the wand and engine starts to bog down???

Ican see im going to have to wright this whole thing again . This sight is not good for people like me who know the answers . Something always pops up and loose my well thought massage . like the one i just wrote to you . Briggs olny makes the engine on your mechine you have 3 to 4 differant other companys that make all of the other parts this makes it diffelculy for anybody to get parts for the mechine . But there can olny be two things wrong with this mechine . The first is you have a problem with the valves on the pump body . Do you see brass caps on the valve body remove them one at a time . Check the valve you can remove them with a small pair of niddle noise pilliers look at the plastic cages around the valves they tend to break and jam the valve seats it olny takes one to cause this condution you describe . The other thing it could be is the unloader valve is stuck . This is the part under the pressure control knob and you will need to remove it . What it dose is allow the presserized water to recurlicate back through the pump body when the trigger is not open . This could also cause this condution . Most of the time it can be freed up with some WD40 and most are not servicable as a unit and lots of luck trying to find one .But the chances are good you can free it . In the winter time you should put antifreeze in the mechine disconnect the plug wire pull the cord until it comes out the other side this will protect it from the water freezeing and expanding and damageing parts aswell as corroition . Well good luck from what you descriped the valves but you should also turn that pressure knob in and out on a regular baicis to keep it free

Hi,
I think that you are right on with your assessment of the problem...something has come apart inside the wand and it is blocking the water flow under high pressure or it will not open under high pressure...I would replace the wand.

when the trigger for the wand is not pulled , there is a pressure relief valve that bypasses the water in the pump and so there is no pressure until the trigger is pulled again.
with the pump getting hot and not being able to pull the motor to restart, it indicates that that pressure relief valve has jammed ( faulty ) and the pump is running at full pressure all the time
That will heat the pump and stop the engine from restarting
That valve is where I would start looking for a problem

HOW DO I DRAIN THE WATER FROM MY HP WASHER FOR WINTER

What I've always done is just disconnect the water hose then start the washer and pull the trigger till no more water comes out. You don't want to run it very long at all after there's no more water though, you can quickly overheat the pump if it is ran without a water supply for too long. I've been doing this for the past 3 years with one of my washers and haven't had any problems with the pump.

Engine runs but only a steam of water comes out of gun with trigger on. washer is stored in a heated garage in winter.

you need to remove and clean the unloader valve. The way this valve works is when you release the trigger the pressure is diverted around the pump through the inlet side so you don't cause damage to the pump. This valve is usually located next to the discharge pipe on the pump where your pressure hose hooks up to. Remove and clean. Be sure to clean port that you remove the valve from also. Use carburetor cleaner. Lubricate the valve with a light coat of lithium grease. This should cure the problem. If not let me know.

Cant start the unit ,there is to much pressure on the pull chord when water is hooked up.

Trying to start a pressure washer with water supply on and gun trigger off will be a difficult task. It could be comparred to trying to start a lawn mower with the mower in tall grass. Place the mower on the drive or walkway and pulling the rope to start the engine is much easier. It is easy to start your pressure washer with no water in the system however there is a remote possibility that you could overheat the seals if you take too long to turn on the water. It is a little more difficult to start the washer with water supply on and someone holding the trigger to wand open. This will prevents pressure from building and making engine hard to start. You will not damage your washer if you start it with water supply off if you flood the pump and pressure hose with water first . Here is the procedure I use if i am working alone. I trun on the water to pump and open trigger to gun to allow water to flow into pump and pressure hose. Turn off water (leaving the water supply on will make it a little harder to pull starter). Start engine while holding trigger to gun open. When engine starts release gun causing unloader to activate circulating water in pump. Now turn on water and you are ready to work. If your system is under warranty however, I would advise to use the starting procedure outlined by mfg (hold open trigger to gun however). To get the longest life from unit try using it at say 75% of capacity or lower if your can and use max pressure on the tuffest jobs. Leaving your washer at full pressure for all jobs is like driving your car at 100 mph everywhere your go. Good luck.

Hooked it up with water started engine and no

Your water system is plugged with "gunk"
You will need to slush it out with water and air pressure if you can until it runs clear

Ex-Cell VR2500 Builds Pressure but Won't Spray

I have a similar problem and diagnosed it to be a problem with the gun. I spoke to a technician that services this pressure washer and he walked me through all the diagnostic steps. The pump is working because there is pressure being built up and the gun sort of works because you can get water out before the washer is started. The technician said that the mechanism inside the gun is either clogged or broken. I am going to Home Depot or Lowes to purchase a new gun and will try it tonight. Guns are only about $30-40. He said generic is fine as long as the thread matches and PSI is in range. Good luck!

Pressure washer stalls out when wand nozzle is released

common for not starting unless trigger engaged as you are turning the pump as well as engine creating pressure,as for stalling pump has unloader valve which is probably in need of grease(use good silicone grease)this allows water to ciculate when trigger released.

Builds up to much pressure in hose and stalls engine

Sounds like the unloader is not working. try replacing it and see if that helps.
