It might actually be a bad thermostat, or a stuck damper. All the cold are is "produced" in the freezer section, and there are ducts with dampers that lead into the refrigerator section. If these dampers collect some ice on them it will cause them to stick in there current position. If this is the case, and the dampers are open, then it will always be to cold in the refrigerator. Hope this helps

The coils jeep freezing up I have cleaned the filter

usually means Freon charge is low, you might have a leak..... also, filters don't catch everything. over time what gets past the filter can be trapped in underside of the evaporative coil on top of your furnace..... outside condenser coils may be caked with debris, improper air flow threw coils can produce liquid Freon back to evaporative coil causing it to freeze..
hosing the condenser down will resolve freezing up too

What is the problem when an air conditioner begins to freeze up?

Freezing up is caused by
•dirty air filter or evaporator coil(indoor coil)
•dirty blower wheel or blower fan blades
•low freon
•weak or slow blower motor
If air filter and indoor coil are clean may be low on freon. Blower wheels seldom get dirty on window units. Pull unit from window and clean both coils with a water hose. Careful not to get any electrical wet. Let dry for a while and reinstall. If it continues to freeze its a freon problem most the time.

The unit keeps freezing up solid even on energysaver

Change or clean the filter and clean both coils, no air flow or reduced air flow, the coil will freeze. It will also freeze if its set to cold 72 min. setting. Example if your room temp is 72 degrees, than the air will be 52, and the coil temp is 32 degrees, any moisture will freeze. Hope this helps

Freezing of low pressure pipe 24 BTU

A line or coil freezing is a sign of restricted air flow or low on freon. Make sure the fan that circulates the cold air is working and the filter and coil at the filter are clean. A dirty coil can be cleaned with coil cleaner and a water hose. You will need to remove the unit and take it outside. (window units only) You can buy a bottle of coil cleaner at any hardware store. Follow the instructions on the bottle but basically you spray the coil until soaked wait 5 minutes and flush it clean with water from a hose. Repeat if necessary. Try not to get water and cleaner on the controls. Be careful water will be trapped in the unit you may want to tip it toword the back for 10 minutes or so and if possible let it set outside to dry. Reinstall the unit and put a clean filter on it and give it a try. If ice forms again it is low on freon and will require a repairman to fix it. Freon is a restricted item and you have to have a license to buy it. good luck..

Doesn't collect water, freezes on top

clean filter and then check the coil behind the filter to see if clean. Biggest things that freeze a unit are dirty filter or coil...or low on freon.

Wont blow cold air

First check and clean the filters, and the evaporator coil. (thats the "inside" coil that has the indoor air sucked through it, cooling it and then pushing it out the vents.

If the filter is clogged or the coils are dirty, it will not cool properly and potentially freeze up.

Also check the condensor (outdoor) coil, if it is dirty/clogged, it will run hot and not cool properly.

If all coils and filters are clean, and the fan motors are running and in good condition and it is still not cooling then you are likely low on refridgerant. (handling/purchasing refridgerant other than R134A requres a CFC certification by law)

Everything in frig is freezing no matter what setting we put it on

It looks like the refrigerator won't stop running not matter what temperature you set the cold control and that is the problem ,its need to be replaced.

My ac unit

air conditioners freeze up for one of 2 reasons, #1 restricted air flow, is the filter, /orthe evaporator (cool) coil clean?
#2 it is low on freon, causing the coils to be colder than they should be.
