Question about HP Photosmart C7280 Printer

1 Answer

Experiencing a problem with an HP Photosmart C7280 All-in-one printer, after the yellow ink cartridge was replaced a 'change the cartridge' screen comes up when trying to print, even though the printer shows the new ink levels are OK with the newly installed yellow cartridge. Just installed the current updates for the HP C7280 and problem still persists. Any thoughts?

I found a fix for my HP C7280 printer and wanted to relay this to anyone else experiencing this same problem. After downloading a diagnostic utilty from HP on the site out-of-warranty.com, my problem is gone and I am able to print in color once more! There seems to be a lot of HP printer problems surrounding the yellow ink cartridge and this out-of-warranty.com site seems to have other ideas to try for this specific problem. Good luck HP users!

Try holding down the ok -- cancel -- black -- color buttons with 4 fingers while at the same time powering the unit off. Keep them held down till it is off. Then turn it back on normally & it should try to do "Maintenance" & you hear a whirling noise --- that is the ink pump spinning to try & pump in ink to the print head.
You may also try this: Press and hold the '*' key on the key pad, then press the '#' key and release them both. Then enter '123' to enter maintenance mode. Then press the right arrow (beside the OK button) until System Config. menu appeared on panel. Then press OK two times to clear the error condition, then cancel two or three times to return to the top menu. Then power it off and back on.

Sad to say I know how to fix this.
1. Power up the printer
2. set printer's date to the current day.
3. On the keypad press the * and # keys together
Now press one at a time 1,2,3 for the code
"screen stould display a white backround with 2 lines of info"
4. remove all the print cartridges
5. Press the >> arrow button twice until "reset menu" is found
6. Press OK
7. Select Partially full reset Press ok
( the printer will take almost to minutes before it powers down)
8. Power up the printer and follow the steps.
reinstall ink ect......

I don't know why this happens but I sure a lot of printers are in the trash because of this. If you print out a SELF TEST REPORT the
dates on the age of the ink Cartridges are likely out of life range.
Planned obsolescence by HP can be found all over the web. This could be one of those.

The pink and magenta cartridges won't print. We have replaced them again thinking the cartridges were faulty, but still we just get yellow print. HP Photosmart C7280 All-in_One

Sounds like you need to run a printhead cleaning cycle. Dried inks can block nozzles - if they're blocked no amount of cartridge changing will make them work.

Run out ink error warning message

are using a refilled cartridge?
if yes, install an actual brand new one.

are you using an official cartridge that you've had laying around for a while?
the cartridges expire so check if your cartridge has expired and replaced accordingly.

My HP Photosmart C7280 does not recognise refilled cartridge.

Yes that is because when you get a cartridge refilled then what may have happened is when you gave a print command some of the ink may have splattered onto the ink spraying sensors(usually happens with refilled cartridges on any printer). Its because of the heat generated with which the ink nozzles cannot handle as the ink that is sprayed from refilled cartridges is a little more than regular original ink cartridges.Dip a cotton swab in water wipe the copper contacts on the cartridge. Then wipe around the place where the cartridges sit and also wipe the carriage rod which is inside the printer (metal rod)along which ur spraying mechanism(carriage) moves. If this does not resolve your issue call in to hp at 1800-474-6836 and you can purchase original cartridges that are just for 11 dollars each.........or you can purchase a combination pack which will be cheaper
