If it seams to accelerate itself instead going to gear and work ,,than is the clutch ..and the system is quite easy ....just a few polymer or disks.alternate with metal ones..and function by sliding when clutch engaged ..and pressed into each other when clutch released...and if the non metal (changeable disks) are well worn out ..they just slip out like the clutch is on ...and do not engage the belt ..
to take a look on it probably have to get the oil out ..and remove the lid...and wither will have to change the clutch disks...or just to tide them a little..but not to much cause then will not clutch anymore..

How do you change the drive belt on a john deere d110 riding lawn mower?

You can look at the manuel that came with the mower or if you did not get one, go to the JD mower web site and look up you model and download the needed documentation. If that is not possible contact the local JD mower dealer and get a copy of the mower deck docs and look at the instructions for belt replacement.
