The SANYO Model for the TV is DP42647

I took the component off the
board and the component was flat on both sides, circular with two contact wires coming straight out from the bottom, color yellow, and it had a brown sleeve inserted over it.

On the sleeve I was able to make out all but one character that was burnt off.
I replaced that with a (?) It could be a 1. My guess is it is: 110.0/5 with the letters before it being: HSXPO
    ?10.0/5

The component exploded so it was hard to see the markings on the sleeve. The component itself was fried and had burst so the markings on it were not there to read. The height of the component circle was about a 1/3rd of an inch. Thickness about 1/10th of an inch.

The internal parts that were shown due to the burst were two circular metal discs with a contact wire that went to the board coming from each.

Thank you for detailed info about Z800
It is VDR (voltage dependent resistor) and installed on AC line, its job is to get shorted if AC supply exceeds and blow off fuse to protect power supply primary circuit that can be occurred due to over voltage AC supply.

Below image shows its symbol in schematics.
Its a protection device and you can replace it with similar vdr from any other tv power supply circuit.
Hope this info will help you.
    Thanks.

OK, getting closer. The answer to the question would be:

For me to order that component for replacement I need to know the exact specifications to replace this VDR. So for this board and this component when I place an order for it, what exactly am I going to request to get the same having the rating required for correct replacement?

    Thanks,

    Walter

PS: If you have the correct one can I buy it from you?

If not, your recommendation of a company to order direct from?

And when I get it does it mater what direction it is attached?

    Thanks,

    Walter

Power supply board of DPS-242BP is not suppose to be repaired on component level hence no spare parts nor part numbers available.
Please replace complete power supply board and it is available with Shop Jimmy for $83
    Thanks.

Power supply board even work without VDR Z800, remove it from circuit board, put new fuse and plug it in wall socket.
Power supply will work if no further part is damaged in primary section.
    Z800 is only protection device.

Already purchased a new board for $80

Wanted to repair the old board as a backup.

So, from what I have heard so far I can connect a 110V fuse to that circuit but 5A, 10A, 3A, ????

Or replace with a VDR circuit of what rating????

    Walter

PS: And the power board will NOT operate without that circuit.

  • Shahid Electronics
    Shahid Electronics May 11, 2010

Fuse rating would be 250V 5A
Replacement Varistor can be used and there are many available in Part Store.

  • Shahid Electronics
    Shahid Electronics May 11, 2010

Varistor does not have polarity pins, can be put in circuit board freely.

  • Walter Burien

And the "correct" Varistor part number for replacement of the Z800 component being that their are over 1000 different ones with different values listed?????

Model dp46841 sanyo 47 inch tv won't power up

Likely a power board issue. Check that capacitors are OK in the power board, and if blown then replace with exact parts. This is a $10 fix, but if it does not work after than then cost go up like replacing the power board completely.

My 42 inch sanyo wont turn on, the power to the outlet works

Hello jboogie3945,

Welcome, and thanks for using FixYa!

To answer your questions: Since you have tested the outlet this set plugs in too, and it is ok, then we can turn our attentions to the Power Supply Board.
With confidence, we can say this board will need to be checked for a blown fuse or the entire board will need to be replaced. I have included the link below, so that you can see what the board looks like, and in the event you need/want to replace it.

I have aVizio VX42L HDTV10A. was watching a show when we heard a loud pop. Then all went dark. Would not turn back on. I took off the back cover and found the ceramic fuse was blown on the board # DPS-283AP...

This means you have a dead short, It is probably a Diode in the power supply area, but without testing board you don't know. If you know basic electronics, i would say check all diodes in power supply and look hard for something burnt and replace that also. Or just replace power board, check shopjimmy.com

No sound, i checked the speaker on off, mute, there is no sound

There are three separate video boards inside the tv. One is a digital cable tuner, one a digital input board (VGA, HDMI), and the other is the analog board. The analog board I believe contains the audio components of the tv, so if the sound has gone out yet video still works, that particular board may be at fault. It is available on ebay from several different sellers, the part number is 071-13182-00300. The power supply on my set went out as well too, and I think it fried a component somewhere on the audio board, but I haven't been able to identify which one exactly, was wondering if you've had any power issues, or have yourself already replaced the power supply on your tv....

No power at all. No amber light or green light. Power cord check out fine?? Work great then 8 hours later went to watch TV. and nothing. Any help out there ??

I've been hearing alot about the main power supply board with this model. Mostly I hear that when the power button is pressed, the relay inside will click but with no other response from the TV. This tells me that either the relay contacts are no good or that there are some serious soldering problems on the board. That would explain why it will operate for a short time then quit unexpectedly. Thermal cycling might be stressing the already weak solder joints causing intermittent contact. Personally, I'd love to get my hands on one of these boards.

If it were me and I had nothing to lose, I'd pull the main PS board and touch up the relay section by resoldering (as I believe it is more likely to have bad solder joints then the bad relay contacts). If anyone tries this with positive results, please let me know and rate accordingly.
