Are you trying to get an IP for your computer, or for your modem? Assuming your using a high-speed connection, possibly a router?

Hi, How to change the IP address that is assigned to a network adapter loadTOCNode(2, 'summary'); 1. Log on to the computer by using the Administrator account. 2. Click Start, click Settings, and then click Control Panel. 3. In Control Panel, double-click Network and Dial-up Connections. The Network and Dial-up Connections dialog box opens. 4. Right-click the local area connection that you want, and then click Properties. The Local Area Network Connection Properties dialog box opens. 5. In the Components checked are used by this connection box, click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click Properties. The Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties dialog box appears. 6. Continue with the steps in one of the following two sections.
How to automatically obtain an IP address loadTOCNode(3, 'summary'); Use these steps to configure the computer to obtain an IP address from a DHCP server. Note that you must have a DHCP server. 1. In the Local Area Connection Properties dialog box, click OK. 4. Click Start, and then click Run. 5. In the Open box, type cmd, and then click OK. 6. At the command prompt, type ipconfig /release, and then press ENTER. 7. Type ipconfig /renew, and then press ENTER. The network adapter is assigned an IP address by the DHCP server, and a message similar to the following message appears: Windows 2000 IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :dns.microsoft.com
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . :192.168.0.201

In the Default gateway box, type the IP address of the computer or device on your network that connects your network to another network, or to the Internet. 5. In the Local Area Connection Properties dialog box, click OK. 8. Close the Network and Dial-up Connections window.

Troubleshooting loadTOCNode(2, 'summary'); • There is an IP address conflict: If you attempt to assign an IP address that is already in use, you receive the following error message: The static IP address that was just configured is already in use on the network. Please reconfigure a different IP address. In this case, assign an unused IP address to the network adapter.

• Your computer cannot connect to other computers on the network: If you assign an incorrect subnet mask address to the network adapter, the computer is effectively located on a different network. You cannot connect to other computers on the network. • Your computer cannot connect to other computers by using host names: If you assign an incorrect DNS server IP address, or if you do not use a DNS server, you cannot connect to computers by using their host names. This prevents you from browsing the Internet. You can connect to other computers by using their IP addresses.

You can work around this issue in a local network by adding host-name-to-IP-address mappings in a Hosts file.

Changing TCP/IP settings Win 7 TCP/IP defines how your computer communicates with other computers.
To make it easier to manage TCP/IP settings, we recommend using automated Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP). DHCP automatically assigns Internet Protocol (IP) addresses to the computers on your network, if your network supports it. If you use DHCP, then you don't have to change your TCP/IP settings if you move your computer to another location, and DHCP doesn't require you to manually configure TCP/IP settings, such as Domain Name System (DNS) and Windows Internet Name Service (WINS). To enable DHCP or change other TCP/IP settings, follow these steps:
  1. Open Network Connections by clicking the Start button 4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33_818.jpg, and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, typeadapter, and then, under Network and Sharing Center, click View network connections.
  2. Right-click the connection that you want to change, and then click Properties. 18abb370-ac1e-4b6b-b663-e028a75bf05b_48.jpg If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  3. Click the Networking tab. Under This connection uses the following items, click either Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) or Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6), and then click Properties. 25e7e385-9327-4f7d-aab0-afa5aaf952ba_49.jpgThe Network Connection Properties dialog box
  4. To specify IPv4 IP address settings, do one of the following:
    • To get IP settings automatically using DHCP, click Obtain an IP address automatically, and then click OK.
    • To specify an IP address, click Use the following IP address, and then, in the IP address, Subnet mask, and Default gateway boxes, type the IP address settings.
  5. To specify IPv6 IP address settings, do one of the following:
    • To get IP settings automatically using DHCP, click Obtain an IPv6 address automatically, and then click OK.
    • To specify an IP address, click Use the following IPv6 address, and then, in the IPv6 address, Subnet prefix length, and Default gateway boxes, type the IP address settings.
  6. To specify DNS server address settings, do one of the following:
    • To get a DNS server address automatically using DHCP, click Obtain DNS server address automatically, and then click OK.
    • To specify a DNS server address, click Use the following DNS server addresses, and then, in the Preferred DNS server and Alternate DNS server boxes, type the addresses of the primary and secondary DNS servers.

Change ip address

If your IP address is static, you cannot change it.Static IP will not change even when you reset the modem. You have to contact your Internet Service provider(ISP) for changing static IP.If your IP address is dynamic,it will change whenever you reset the modem. If you want to check your IP address, visit Ip-details.com .

I have the Lynksys wireless-G 2.4GHz , I want to change my Password can you tell me how to do it pls. Thank you

Reset your router back to it's factory settings by holding the reset button for about 5 seconds. I have provided a list of the most popular router brands. If it does not work you may need to google what your specific model's default IP address/default username/default passwords are, for example search for "Encore ENHWI-2AN3 default IP address" The default login info can change, it can depend on where you obtained your router. If you purchased it yourself from a store then the standard defaults should work. If you obtained your router from your Internet Provider you may need to contact your service provider. It also may depend whether it's an old or new model router as well. And you may need to press and hold the reset button on your router several times before it actually clears. Make sure you have a wired connection then once you have accessed your router simply run the Setup Wizard. Set your SSID as something you'll remember like "Mavericks Network" and your Password can be something like your phone number for example 3109876543

Hi dear, m having problem using Internet on my Dell Latitude D600. on some Broadband Cable it works, but on some Broadband connections its doesn't work..its appears a yellow sign on LAN connection. Kindly...

With the information provided my best guess on what it wrong is that your internet configurations such as your IP address and other options are hard coded into your system and this is easy to remove. Step One: right click on your internet connection icon in the bottom right corner that is getting the yellow symbol and click open network connections. Step Two: right click on your local area connection icon, it will be an icon named local area connection and may have a number after it such as 2. Step three: In the window that appears after step two there will be a scroll down box labeled "This connection uses the following items" at the top use the scroll bar at the right side to scroll down to the bottom and click on Internet protocol(TCP/IP) and then click the properties button( it will be the right most button of three buttons below the scroll box. step Four: on the new box that appears make sure that "Obtain an IP address automatically " is selected and that "Obtain DNS server addresses automatically" is selected then ok in the bottom corner. Step Five: click Ok on the previous box and then restart your computer system this will more then likely fix your problem. if it dose not pleas write back and I will be more that happy to provide more possible solutions to your problem

I hope this helped.

Thank you,
Norse

IP Addresses are very, very seldom made up by users. IP management is primarily handled by your Internet povider, like Comcast or such. Suggest you contact whoever it is that provides your Intermet to solve this issue.

I am unable to connect to the internet using a wireless connection (signal strength good) When I use the repair wizzard I get a message telling me unable to renew IO address

If the Wi-Fi access point is a DHCP enable router, you should be able to browse the internet as DNS address will be automatically fixed in the Router firmware.

to check what IP address is assigned and more information on your wireless adapter

go to Command prompt by typing "cmd" in RUN.

type "ipconfig /all" without the quote.

you should be able to see IP address of your wireless network adapter plus default gateway and DNS address which are much needed in order to have internet access.

you can still assigned IP address etc manually.

Go to "Control panel"
Click on "Network and Sharing Center"
Click on "Change Adapter setting"
Now, right click on the wireless adapter and select "Properties"
Select "Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and "Properties"

In General tabs, select the radio button with " use the following IP address"

IP address : 192.168.1.x    (if the router IP address is 192.168.1.y)
                                        x=1 to 254, y=1 to 254 but x should not be                                           equal to y )
Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0

Default gateway : 192.168.1.y ( IP address of the Wireless access point)

Preferred DNS address : Ask the Internet service provider

Alternate DNS address : Ask the Internet service provider

Click "OK" twice.

Your Internet should work now.
