Question about Gateway Computers & Internet
If you are not getting any thing when just the charger is plugged in and either no battery or the battery is dead, but the system will run on a fully charged battery. There may be a problem with the motherboard that a DC jack replacement will not help.. some of the traces sandwiched in the mid-plain on the mother board might have corroded away and need to be bypassed .. check my blog for pictures on how this can be done. http://cegeekbook.blogspot.com/2010/07/gateway-ma7-mx6930-no-power-will-not.html

Sounds like either the power Jack on the motherboard is loose or the motherboard itself is bad.
The motherboard would have to be taken out of the laptop and where the power jack is, the solder points below it need to be resoldered so the connections are made properly and its nice and tight. If that doesn't fix the problem then the motherboard is bad. I would suggest taking the laptop to a repair shop cause the whole motherboard needs to be taken out and its alot of work.
