Question about Hoover F5866-900 SteamVac Deluxe Wet/Dry Vacuum

1 Answer

Brushes won't turn.

The square drive slot that the square drive pin, on the brushes, fits into does not turn to operate the brushes. everything else works fine. I removed the cover to find the housing where the drive slot lives but could'nt gain access to see inside. is there a belt in there or something inside that I might be able to fix or replace? Unable to locate the manual to see if problem would be corrected by something I forgot to do, since the steamvac is'nt used all the time. Any suggestions?? Thanks

The drive is an geared assembly you will have to buy the whole turbine assembly, they are rarely fixable, but you can try taking apart cleaning and regreasing, if you can remember how to reassemble it. make sure you give proper model of machine to ensure you get correct turbine as there are many different models of these steamers

Brushes aren't turning. switch is on

Remember that the brushes turn best when the handle is tipped back. If this does not work, remove the brush assembly and insert a flat screwdriver into the square hole that the pin on the brush usually fits into. Try to turn the fitting. If it won't turn, the air driven turbine has seized up and will require replacement.

The brushes won't spin. I put new brushes on and it still doesn't spin.

Usually when the brushes won't turn it is due to a bad turbine. Insert a screwdriver into the square hole that the pin on the brush fits into, and see if it turns. If it is seized up, the turbine assembly will need to be replaced.

The brushes on my hoover f7411-900 carpet cleaner will not turn. any ideas? thanks, Hank

The most common reason for this is that the air driven turbine that turns the brush has seized up. To test it, remove the brush and insert a flat screwdriver into the square hole that the pin on the brush normally fits into. If you can't turn the fitting with the hole in it, the turbine assembly will need to be replaced. ( part # 91001019 ) - msrp $19.99. Be sure the square pin has not broken off from the brush assembly, as this is another possibility.

If the speed control switch on the hood is in the On position, it would appear the drive mechanism for the brushes is not spinning internally. The drive mechanism could easily be replaced by a technician.

The plastic gears that drive the sweep brushes strip out easily on these. You can get the company to repair it for you but they make it a big hassle. I opted to buy the gear set on EBAY and replace them myself.
