Hi, without the compressor running, you will only get room temp. air. You will be dealing with electrical trouble shooting to find why this compressor is not operating. If you do not have any electrical trouble shooting skills you would need to take it in to have it checked. There are several things you can check just by Looking, touching and so on. On a single phase compressor sealed pot, you will have a run cap, in your case it may be a dual cap one part to start the fan and the second part of the cap to start and run the compressor. I am telling you all of this so that maybe you and I can solve your problem. Just some things for you to look over being you are not an a/c Tech and have the equip. to check what would cause this.Turn off the power, and try and locate the run cap.If it is a dual cap it will be rather tall, 4 to 6" and oval with 3 terminals on top marked C, Hermetic, and Fan. Since you can't test it just look it over for any signs of oil leakage and bulging at the top and sides. If you do see this, it needs to be replaced. If it looks good it still may be open internally, but if you can excess the compressor, where the 3 wires enter, you should have a plastic cap to cover these wires. Try to remove it to see if maybe one of the wire connections have burned off, which will cause compressor not to operate. These are things that are checked in the field with meters and proper a/c tools, but you can look and find problems causing this. I wanted to give you a rather long explanation, as you can't always assume the run cap is bad unless you check it first. The compressor could also be shorted out or open windings.Without being on site, I can't check it. You if you can, look at the things I have told you, burned off connections, Leaking Run Cap or bulging at the top, it will be raised and distorted.Compressor terminals one may have burned off due to heat or loose connection. Please let me know what you are able to do, and get back to me.A little time spent exploring with my direction, may have you up and running with little or no cost. I'm just covering most all bases that we can under the circumstances.

Take care

MZD2766GES compressor not firing

Is your compressor giving sounds like a buzz followed by a click periodically? Is the compressor exterior warm/hot? Most likely the compressor start relay assembly is bad, or the compressor is locked up, (frozen internally). If you connect an amp probe to the red wire of the compressor, and the momentary reading meets or exceeds the LRA rating on the compressor tag, most likely the compressor is at fault. Kenmore model 596 52679200 compressor starter rattles.

It might be on the way out I would get the new relay and have it ready when the box fails. leave it be till it goes on out. But be ready. If it was bad it would either not do nothing or overheat and shut off.

Runs loud when the compressor kicks in? Why?

Check vibration eliminators on the feet of the compressors, over time of running in tough conditions they wear out and cause rattling. If this does not fix the problem see below

-check amp draw, if amp draw is high windings are wearing out and compressor is running harder, may need replaced
- check to make sure your refrigerant charge is correct you could be slugging the compressor
-find other ways to isolate compressor operations

Kenmore (253.51399104)side by side making buzzing/humming noise

It will rattle slightly, this is normal. The ones that are burned out will sound like they have gravel in them, you can defininely tell something is wrong.
The problem with diagnosing Kenmore fridges with this problem is that there are different manufacturers. Yours is built by Frigidaire and probably has a Tecumseh compressor. We find more failed compressors with the Tecumsehs than we do with the models that have Embraco compressors. The models with Embraco's generally have more relay failures.

You should not hear the buzz/hum at startup. You will need to replace the compressor, which will be replaced at no charge to you if it is less than 5 yrs old.
If it is older than 5 yrs, you can have it replaced, but it will be almost as expensive as a new fridge. You can buy an aftermarket start device called a 3-in-1. This has a start capacitor built in to give it a little more boost on start up. I don't recommend using them unless it is a short term fix until the compressor can be replaced or if it is out of warranty and there is nothing to lose anyway.

Compressor not running.

The fan running near the compressor is a good thing. If you suspect the starter it is the little box on the compressor. It usually consists of the overload and starter. You may also have a start capacitor, if you do you will need a multimeter that can check capacitors. Read the case, it should be say like a 5uf (micro farad) or something like that. They make kits to replace the starter/overload combo and also sell just a capacitor if that tests bad. I have seen some starters that are white in color with a small white plastic clip that holds the cover on go bad recently. If you have this type, take it off and shake it. If it rattles it's bad (really).
