I can't figure out what password to enter when attempting to connect my iphone/laptop to the wireless network. Any help/guidance is most appreciated.

The encryption key (password) is in the D-Link's wireless settings.
Connect a LAN cable from the D-Link to your computer's LAN port, open a browser and enter the D-Link's configuration URL. OR open the browser on your laptop and enter the D-Link's configuration URL..

The default PW = blank (just press Enter)

The iPhone can connect to the internet through both Wi-Fi and EDGE. Wi-Fi would be the wireless network at your home or business. When the iPhone connects to the internet through EDGE, it is actually connecting through the AT&T phone connection (or any other service provider the iPhone works with in the future).
To the connect to the internet, you simply need to open up Safari (which is the internet browser used by the iPhone). If you're used to using a pc, think of Safari as the 'Internet Explorer' that the iPhone uses. You can use Safari the same way you could use Internet Explorer.
Once you open up Safari, the iPhone will attempt to connect to the internet. If there are wireless networks available wherever you happen to be, the iPhone will prompt you to choose one to connect to. If you're trying to connect to a network that has security, you will be prompted to enter the password for the network.
If you want to check to see whether there is a wireless network available where you live, work, or play, go to 'Settings' and then 'Wi-Fi'. The iPhone will show you all of the wireless networks that are available.
If there aren't any wireless networks to connect to, iPhone will connect to the internet over EDGE. Connection speeds over EDGE will likely be somewhat slower than they would be over a Wi-Fi network. You will also not be able to answer phone calls while connected to the internet through EDGE. If the iPhone is connected to the internet over EDGE you will see this small icon at the top of your screen:

Disconnect your laptop wireless connection from the wireless acess connection. (Reboot your laptop if necessary). Then reconnect your laptop wireless connection, if your wireless network is a secured wireless network, your laptop will prompt for a network key ie your wireless network SSID password. Make sure the network key correctly entered ie.("Most wireless password keys are Upper or Lower case sensitive")

If the problem persist, then use the "Command Prompt"
Start ->"Run" ->Type "CMD" ->The command prompt will appear, then type ie without the quotes,
1. "ipconfig /release" -> enter
2. "ipconfig /renew" -> enter
3. "ipconfig /flushdns" -> enter

This message generally means that you are attempting to connect to a password (secure) network. You have to reestablish the connection by inputting the password before full connectivity can be achieved.

Router password is the password to access the router settings.
SSID is the network name. When you try to connect to the wireless network on your laptop, you will see this network name.
If your network is secured network then it will ask you for the network key or the password. You need to enter the ' security key '.

The best way is to double click the windows wireless symbol by the clock and click preferences on the left. Open the Networks tab and the first option is a check box to use windows for wireless, check the box and click apply. Once again double click the wireless symbol and select your network.

you said the laptop is connected to the network.
when you try to connect to the wireless network on the i-touch or i-phone, do you see your network.
if your network is secured then you must enter the correct password for the wireless. If you are not sure about the wireless key or the password then you will need to open the router set up page and check the wireless settings.
you can also try to upgrade the firmware ( software) of the router.

Is your wireless network password protected? If so did you put that password into the iPhone properly?

the wireless network is secure... you need talk to the person that set it up to get the network key
if that is not possible let me know ... there are ways around that
and after you have the key it should hook up with no problems... as long as the correct driver is installed for your wireless

I had this exact same frustrating problem. The problem was a simple password issue. Although I had changed the password on the modem to my own personal one, that password only affected the administrator settings. When I used this particular password on my iphone it would put the checkmark next to the 2wire, but I would not get the wifi symbol at the top of the screen. I fixed the problem by using the 10-digit password supplied on the actual router instead. I told my iphone to 'forget' the network, then reselected it and when it requested my password I typed in the 10 digit number and 'presto,' i had wifi symbology! I hope this helps.
