Hello Tessty,

The Paper Jam message may appear on the display if the Brother machine is not feeding paper correctly, paper scraps stucked or the paper is not loaded properly in the paper tray, the jam clear cover located in the back of the machine, is not installed properly or the PE Actuator is missing or damaged.

Printer makes a horrible sound when trying to print also the blue button on the right side making a loud clicking noise. the paper won't feed.8860 dn

I have had the exact same problem. The problem is in the tray. It won't raise the paper properly despite how much paper you have in it. Make sure that all of the springs are there, and that the plastic sensors are correct.

I've found it useful to just buy another tray. You can find it as low as $30-35.

It's a very typical mechanical problem, but most likely resolved by changing the tray.

I have a Brother MFC 8840D. The print quality is excellent and appears to be stable (it does not rub off), but once I fold a document and place it into an envelope, the recipient will receive a smeared...

It sounds likea problem with your paper stock. Check the following to make sure you are using a paper type that is compatible with your printer.

Recommended paper

Plain Paper: Xerox Premier 80 gsm
Xerox Business 80 gsm
Mode DATACOPY 80 gsm
IGEPA X-Press 80 gsm
Recycled paper: Xerox Recycled Supreme
Transparency: 3M CG 3300
Labels: Avery laser label L7163

??  Before you buy a large amount of paper, please test some to make sure that the paper is suitable.
??  Use paper that is made for plain-paper copying.
??  Use paper that is 75 to 90 gsm.
??  Use neutral paper. Do not use acidic or alkaline paper.
??  Use long-grain paper.
??  Use paper with a moisture content of approximately 5%.

Caution
Do not use ink jet paper. It may cause a paper jam and damage your MFC.

Choosing acceptable paper

It is recommended that you test paper (especially special sizes and types of paper) on the MFC before purchasing large quantities.

??  Avoid feeding label sheets that are partly used or your MFC will be damaged.
??  Avoid using coated paper, such as vinyl coated paper.
??  Avoid using preprinted or highly textured paper, or paper with an embossed letterhead. For optimum printing, use a recommended type of paper, especially for plain paper and transparencies. For more information on paper specifications, call your nearest authorized sales representative or the place where you purchased your MFC.
??  Use labels or transparencies that are designed for use in laser printers.
??  For the best print quality, we recommend using long-grained paper.
??  If you are using special paper and the paper has problems feeding from the paper tray, try again using the manual feed tray or Multi-purpose tray.
??  You can use recycled paper in this MFC.

The output quality depends on the paper type and paper brand. Visit http://solutions.brother.com and check the latest recommendations for paper that can be used with the MFC-8840D.

I am having a problem with the paper tray for Brother MFC 8860 dn printer - The paper tray clicks when it is printing a page and then says there is no paper in the paper tray or that a page is jammed -...

The paper is not feeding from the paper tray. The loud click is alarming, but not the problem. Check the adjustments in the paper tray. The left and right guides should be snug, but the rear guide should give between a 1/16 inch and a 1/8 inch of free play. If the rear guide is tight, that is the problem. You can check for this by depressing the lever on the right front of the tray. Depressing the lever should raise the stack of paper out of the tray so that it can slide forward.

If you remove the paper from the tray, but will see calibration marks for the paper size you are using. Unlock the read paper guide n the tray, squeeze the release and move the guide ot the mark for the size paper you are using. For example, it you are using letter size paper, the read guide should point to "LTR".

Brother MFC-8840D printer w/false paper jam indication.

With my Brother 8840D I have had paper jams that when cleared would not delete from the display nor would the machine operate until I unplugged the machine for around eight hours. I guess it is a sort of reset or reboot.

My Brother can not function because the LCD appears Jam Paper

There might still be a piece of paper stuck when you pulled the paper out or the paper sensor might have remained in an active position. Just Have to put it back in position.

No paper in traY

make sure the tray is set for letter size, many times the handle moves and the settings on the tray change, so the paper moves back to the settings of legal paper, so when the printer tries to load paper, it cant.

This is a common issue.
Here is the solution:
Pull out the paper tray
On the left of the feed roller there is a black piece of plastic that is a sensor. It is jammed forward. Gently bend it out to the left and push it back until it snaps back into place.

Be careful not to break it.
