Restart the laptop Hold Command + S while it's turning on Enter "/sbin/fsck -y" into the terminal when prompted Enter "/sbin/mount -uw /" when prompted again Enter "Passwd <name>" (put the user name where <name> is -Enter what you want to be the new password, re-enter -reboot

If you are running OS X put the appropriate system disk in the disk drive. Boot up using the c key. Once booted go up to the file menu and go to the reset password menu and reset your password.
