Question about Farmall IH Tractor 130, 140, w/c123 Eng Carb Kit BK123V

1 Answer

Battery polarity I have been told that the 6 volt battery on a Farmall 140 hooks up opposite of what one would think i.e.; the positive terminal on the battery hooks up to the ground on the tractor and the negative battery terminal hooks up to the positive on the tractor. Is this correct, and why?

Show me how to wire farmall cub tractor when converting from 6 volt to 12 volt. It's a 1951 farmall cub

Replace the coil with a 12volt coil. Replace the generator with an alternator. Replace any light bulbs with 12volt. Fit the new 12volt battery in with the negative terminal to chassis! and there you have it.

Some regulators need to be attached to the frame for a grounding spot. It is possible.

The pc port only puts out 5 volts and used for low current applications, so I don't recommend it.

Golf battery polarity

reversed polarity, check fuses. check the system for burnt wires also !
Always hook up your battery terminals correctly, as the alternator may be damaged if the battery is hooked up backward. jump start car, if it will. there should be at least 13.7 to 14.2 volts at battery posts while its running. if alternator is ok.

Is a ih 460 positive ground

This one is easy to figure out. You can use a voltmeter or a 12 volt light bulb. Please one lead (wire) to the frame of the tractor and the other lead on a battery terminal. If the lamp lights when you place the lead on the POSITIVE terminal (or the meter reads 12 volts), it is a Negative grounded system. If the Lamp lights when you place the lead on the NEGATIVE terminal, it is a POSITIVE ground system.

I have a Sangean ATS 818cs portable radio but no 6v lead input

Yes you can use any 6 volt DC for your radio but the most IMPORTANT thing to remember is to connect the terminals in the correct direcction. First of all you can solder a red wire from the positve terminal of the battery and a black wire from the negative terminal of the battery. This must be connected to the source of your 6 volt battery. You can buy a good DC jack socket female to be fitted into the vacant spot of your radio and use a male jack to supply the DC. Only be carefully to see the polarity. To avoid any reversing of polarity use can even connect a diode in the forwarrd bias towards the positve terminal. This will prevent any wrong connection of polarity to damage your set. Helpful? Good day

Flash field on generator

Yes, polarity does matter. If you remove the front cover on the generator end you will see where the rings and brushes are located. The closest to you is positive and the ring that is towards the engine is negative. Trace those wires up into the control box and flash the genset there. The six volt battery is fine. I preferr 9 or 12 volt battery, so that I can produce a larger AC voltage.
