They are usually secured to the counter top with two screws you can access with the door open.

On Maytag dryer model # MDE9316AYA how do I get the top off? One of the fins inside the drum is loose, and I hope I can reach the screws to tighten it up by removing the top, but it won't budge and...

Opening the cabinet of these machines begins with the cabinet top. There are two spring catches located just below the cabinet top that secure it to the rest of the unit. These catches are located towards each side edge. Use a putty knife (or some other thin and flat object) to slide in under the cabinet top to disengage each of the clips. You can now lift up the cabinet top.
With the cabinet top lifted, you will see two screws located inside the top of the cabinet front. Remove each of these screws and lift the front panel to disengage the two clips found at the bottom. As you remove the front panel, disconnect the door switch and any other wiring, taking careful note of which wires are to be reconnected where.

Maytag Neptune Front-Load Washers Front Panel and Top Cover Removal

Most of the internal components of Maytag Neptune Front-Load Washers can be accessed with the removal of the front panel and lifting of the top cover. The top cover can only be lifted after the front panel is removed. Make sure that power to the machine is disconnected prior to servicing to avoid the risk of electric shock.

The first step is the removal of the four screws located vertically along the inside lip of the door opening. These screws hold the front panel to the front shroud assembly. Once the four screws are removed, grasp and press in on the upper edges of the front panel posts then twist it inward to release the clips holding it to the cabinet. Tilt the top of the front panel and move it away from the machine.

The top cover is held on each side of the cabinet by hold down brackets. Locate and remove the 5/16" hex-head screws holding each bracket then swing the bracket to the outside and unhook it from the slot in the top cover lip.

Remove the four screws securing the dispenser bezel to the top cover then lift the bezel off. Open the door then lift the front of the top cover and tilt it toward the rear of the machine.

The internal components of the machine can now be accessed. Reinstall the top cover and the front panel in reverse of the removal steps.

This procedure is also applicable to Maytag Square-Front (1998) and Sloped-Front (1999) Dryers (Maytag Neptune Dryers). The only difference is the dispenser bezel removal.

Access to the igniter (part #35001100) requires the removal of the top cover, console, and the front panel. Disconnect power to the dryer prior to servicing to avoid the risk of electric shock.

Remove the top cover by removing the two 10-mm screws attaching it to the rear of the dryer then slide the cover rearward and lift it off the dryer cabinet. Take note of the notch in the top cover engaging the screw on the cabinet during reassembly.

Remove the two screws mounting the heater PCB board to the cabinet then disconnect the black and white connectors from the board.

Remove the four screws securing the console to the cabinet then rotate the console down and remove it from the dryer.

Remove the four screws securing the top of the front panel to the cabinet and the two screws at the lower portion of the door opening. Once the screws are removed, lean forward the top of the front panel and disconnect the interior light harness. Lift the panel to disengage the three tabs securing its bottom to the base of the dryer and move the panel away.

Disconnect the igniter harness and remove the single screw attaching the igniter to the burner assembly. Slide the igniter back and remove it.

Maytag front load washer Neptune MAH5500B codes FL and DO

There is an emergency access cord provided for the manual unlocking of the washer door and can be accessed by removing the dispenser bezel. Open the dispenser cover and remove the four screws securing the dispenser bezel to the top cover then lift the bezel off. Once the bezel is removed, look for the nylon cord near the door lock assembly through the opening left by the dispenser bezel. Pull the cord away from the door lock assembly to pivot the mechanical opener and push the locking lever into the open position. Open and close the door several times then start a new cycle.

Check the door lock assembly if the problem persists and replace it when necessary. Disconnect power to the washer prior to servicing to avoid the risk of electric shock.

Access to the door lock assembly requires the removal of the front panel, dispenser bezel, and lifting of the top cover.

Open the dispenser cover and remove the four screws securing the dispenser bezel to the top cover then lift the bezel off.

Open the washer door and remove the two screws securing the door hinge and the front panel to the front shroud assembly. Do the same to the two screws on the opposite side of the door opening.

Disengage the front panel posts from the clips located on the face of the cabinet by grasping the upper part of the front panel posts and pressing in on the outer edges then twisting it inward. Once the front panel posts are released from the cabinet, tilt the front panel away from the cabinet and remove it.

Remove the two 5/16" hex-head screws securing the two top cover hold down brackets; one on each side. Swing the brackets to the outside to unhook it from the lip of the top cover then lift the top cover to expose the door lock assembly. Prop up the top cover to prevent it from falling back into position while accessing the door lock assembly.

Disconnect the wiring harnesses from the door lock assembly and the two mounting screws then rock the top of the assembly forward and lift it off the front shroud assembly.

Clean the wiring terminals and the connectors then reseat the connectors several times. Replace the door lock assembly when the problem is not resolved.

Install the new door lock assembly in reverse of the steps given above. Review the steps thoroughly for easy reassembly of the washer. Make sure the wiring harnesses are properly and firmly seated to the door lock assembly terminals. The door lock assembly is part number 22004435.

Dryer runs but will not heat-vent and exhaust hoses appear clear.

Disconnect power from the dryer. Open the door and remove the 4 phillip screws from the inside lip of the door opening. Lift the door slightly and remove by sliding the hinge out from the slot on the cabinet. Grasp the front panel near the upper holes of the screw just removed. Twist from the inside out and pull away from the cabinet at the same time. Lift the front panel off of the bottom clips to gain access to the igniter. DO NOT touch the new ignitor surface as it is extremely fragile. The ignitor is attached by a single screw. Make sure the molex connector to new ignitor is secure.

Reverse the above procedure to reassemble.

Baffles are loose on my dyer maytag neptune mde5500

Hi Nick, welcome to FixYa!

1. Open the door and remove the two screws that secure each of the door hinges to the dryer frame. With the door open so you can take a hold of it, simply pull the whole door out of the notches that the hinges fit into.
Next, remove the two screws on the opposite side of the frame where the door closes to. (along with the two white plastic trim pieces the screws go thru) Once the door is off and the screws are out, pull the entire front panel forward and then it will lift off the tabs at the bottom and you can set it aside.
next, look up near the top of the cabinet, on each side, for the metal hooks that secure the top to the cabinet. Remove the screw (5/16" nut driver) that secures each hook to the cabinet. Take the hook off, repeat for the other side.
Now you can lift up the top of the machine, and rotate the drum so that the loose baffle is at the top so you can work on the baffle easily. Rotate the drum to the next baffle, etc.

I hope you find this answer helpful.

Tumbling vane screw came out - other is loose, banging as clothes tumble - how do i pry(?) open the lid (top shell) to access the drum exterior?

Hi and welcome...
You don't want to pry on anything, that top is secured by hooks and you have to do some dis-assembly to get the top open.

1. Open the door and remove the two screws that secure each of the door hinges to the dryer frame. With the door open so you can take a hold of it, simply pull the whole door out of the notches that the hinges fit into. (This is a reversable door designed for easy removal by the customer)
2. Remove the two screws on the opposite side of the frame where the door closes to. (along with the two white plastic trim pieces the screws go thru)
3. Once the door is off and the screws are out, pull the entire front panel forward and then it will lift off the tabs at the bottom and you can set it aside.
4. Look up near the top of the cabinet, on each side, for the metal hooks that secure the top to the cabinet. Remove the screw (5/16" nut driver) that secures each hook to the cabinet. Take the hook off, repeat for the other side.
Lift top.

Hope that helps.
