I can still scan copies from the platen, but when I scan from the ADF the copies come out black. It also seems like it will scan an 8"x11" sheet of paper. When scanning a 8"x14" paper the last 3" of the scan is black. Is the a problem with the scanning hardware? Could it be a broken cable on the scan hardware or needing an adjustment on the scanner travel mechanism?

To scan the documents, pictures etc., This are the step just follow,
1. Scanning using the Operation Panel 2. Load the document on the platen glass or in the ADF. 3. Press the [Scan] button on the machine. 4. Then the machine switches to Scan Mode 6. Press the [Color Start] or [Black Start] button on the machine 7. MP Navigator starts on the connected computer. You can scan in documents placed on the platen glass or in the ADF using MP Navigator.
On what operation are you receiving the black line in your paper?
This problem usually appears when you try to scan or copy using your ADF (automatic document feeder). To remove this black line in your paper, clean the ADF platen glass in your printer and do as well in the flatbed scanner glass. This ADF platen glass can be found right below where the documents in the ADF goes through. Its a glass about 1 inch in with and beside the flatbed scanner glass (the one where your documents is lay down for copying and scanning. Dried ink or paper residue sticked in the glass can cause this line in the paper. Clean it with a a clothe and spray some windex on it.
If you have the ADF installed then you should have 2 document glass, the ADF uses the small one to scan the original, if this glass is dirty even a small dot will become a long line on the copy result. Clean this glass.
Does the copy function work if you place the document to be copied on the platen (open the cover and lay it on the glass)? If so, check the area to the left of the platen. There should be a strip of glass with a clear plastic cover over it. This area is used for scanning when feeding paper through the automatic document feeder (ADF) from the top. This area must be clean. If this area is clean and clear, it's possible that the scanner element (below the glass) is no longer going all the way to the left when using the ADF. This would be a problem that would require servicing.
As a tech I've never seen that happen. from the doc feeder only Yes, not both the feeder and the glass but not show up when you print from the computer ?????????
For sure there is a dot or something on the small strip of glass, only when you do it from the feeder.
the reason is that the document is moving and the dot on the "small" strip of glass now looks like a line to the copier.
You said it also does it when you lay it down on the glass !!??(platen) that should of indicated the drum has a ring around it, but since it doesn't come out on the PC copy then the glass must have a line on it.
