Question about Canon PowerShot SD1000 Digital Camera
If the red lght comes on, even occasionally, then the fault is likely the flash capacitor.
To operate the flash the camera uses a circuit that stores charge into a capacitor. When the capacitor fails, the flash will not shoot, and the led will turn on only occasionally, when a small charge for the the led is stored in the faulty flash control circuit. The power will still not be enough to turn the flash on because the faulty capacitor will not be able to store charge.
To fix the problem is necessary complete camera disassembly, and the job must be done by a technician.
To arrange repair call Canon at the number listed on the owners manual. You can also get a quote from a third party here: Repair.
