Question about Pool & Spa

1 Answer

I have a Whisperflow pool pump attached to a Polaris Caretaker in-pool cleaning system. When the pump is turned on it pumps a great deal of air through the cleaning system plus the system does not seem to clean effectively. Filter pressure is about 25 psi and there are no apparent water leaks. What should I be looking for to correct these problems?

There may be some debris at the pump lid oring that is allowing some air to get sucked in. sometimes everything seems to be operating fine until the system gets up to full pressure. perhaps the pump has run dry at some point and the pipe that threads into the front of the whisperflo pump has broken the seal. make sure the pipe is dry and then turn on system. you can use duck tape or squeeze silicon sealer into threaded area this will usually at least allow you to notice that less air is entering the system that way you dont have to cut and replumb parts you don need to. you may want to check any valves that are in the pipes that lead to the front of the pump it is possible that the flap at the skimmer throght where the water comes in at the pool wall tile/water line is sticking up and or is getting stuck which will stop the amount of water needed to enter thru the skimmer basket area once the pump is in full prime this then lets the water drop inside skimmer basket area and air gets sucked into the pump then the process repeats over and over until the flapper is freed or removed

If you have a nominal amount of air returning to your pool, chances are you have a leak in the suction side of your pool equipment. most times leaks develope somewhere from your skimmer to your pool pump. Any quality leak detection company will be able to find it for you. When you have it checked now would be a good time to have your pool tiles cleaned.

480 cleaner stops wheels seem loose

The axels are held on by a retainer attached with screws. I had a similiar problem with my polaris. Had to open up and locate the loose screws and re attach. Also the wheels are held on to the shaft with a c-clip. May be missing and the wheel fixin to come off

I have a Pentair whisperflow pump/motor and I keep losing water from my pool when the system comes on. It seems to like **** a bunch of water out. I had pool company to come service and clean system, but...

If you don't see any leaks check your Backwash. If it has any water coming out of it you have a problem with the valve. Hope this helps but I can't say more without inspecting the system. You may need another pool service look for the problem but check the B/W first.

Onga pool pump running but not drawing water from pool

Take out the pump pot basket and stick your finger in the hole towards the motor (make sure the motor won't kick on!!). What you should feel is the impeller. It has five grooves in the face of it and each one needs to be cleaned of foilage and debris. With every hole clogged in the impeller you lose 20% of your motors effeciency. With whisperflow brand the pump pot basket is poorly designed where debris like pine needles go straight through.
