Question about Westell Wirespeed VersaLink (A99-327W11-00) Router (A99327W1100)

Westel 327W no longer accessing VPN

I have Verizon DSL's Westel 327W. It used to connect fine to my work laptop's VPN when I would bring the laptop home.

Now, while I can still get into the internet and my company's lotus notes (The VPN sign in appears to be fine), I cannot access my company intranet home page and the company shared drives.

There have been no changes to the laptop, it's VPN, or the Westell unit.

Verizon sez since I can get on the internet, it's not a faulty modem.

Mty company IT guy tested the laptop and it's VPN on the company guest network, to be fully independant of the company internal network, and the laptop and VPN works fine. This suggests it is not the laptop or it's VPN.

Help very much appreciated!

    No changes to our work laptop's hardware, software, or firewall, per our IT. Seems that 'something' has changed at the Verizon end, which Verizon tech support has no knowledge of.



    The fix, per our IT, is to get an Actiontec GT-704WG modem, which after threatening to quit my subscription, Verizon will send to me for free. We will know nest week.

    Postscript: I got the ActionTec from Verizon. They agreed to send it for free but i had to agree to a $2.50 a month extended warrently- which now that i have the modem, you can bet i am going to fight and cancel.



    After spending an hour on the phone w/ Verizon tech Support (the supplied installation CD was incomrehensible to Joe average user), we got the ActionTec going to both the home computer and the work laptop via wireless. Internet, and VPN and shared drives are all working fine now.



    Still, no one can explain what changed or happened, or why the new modem works when the old one used to work, then quit on VPN.

It sounds like your company has changed some settings for access into thier local intranet. Your IT guy will have to figure out what's wrong, becuase he would be the one with the knowledge of your companies settings. Perhaps they changed the shared-key, or something in the security settings.

Another note: If you have recently changed/upgraded any installations of firewalls or internet security software, check to make sure it's not blocking any of the IP address or ports you need open to access your company network.

    just for kicks, if you can, try hooking up the old unit and entering all of the settings into it that are on the new unit.. Perhaps there was a change in Verizon's connection settings that they failed to tell you about, but when you set up the new router, of course they would give you the new settings... The only thing that I can really think of that could have changed and effected your settings would be either A: The IP address, B: the DNS server or C: Some kind of port-blocking....

Yes it is possible. So long as you know how to configure your Westel router to connect to the modem.

Trying to set up a vpn server on windows XP using


Did you already forward port 1723? I guess you have done that. To isolate it, try to bypass the router and setup or establish the VPN session there. If it doesn't work, maybe your ISP doesn't allow port 1723 or it's just the modem.

Switching DSL Modems


Your dsl line stays the same. you're only changing your dsl equipment.

if you are not able to go online using the 327w, you might need to have it configured depending on the type of connection that you have. if you are using PPPoE (which means you enter a username and password on the modem to connect to verizon) you need your 327w configured for pppoe. but if you are using DHCP connection, any modem or routers should be plug and play.

Most verizon customers from the west coast uses DHCP while those on the east coast uses PPPoE.

You can call tech support to make sure which type of connection you are using.

Can connect only one computer at a time over westell 327W modem


Try this, go to network connections, right click on your connection, click on properties, where it says this connection uses the following items, scroll down to internet protocol, highlight it then click on properties below it, make sure Obtain IP address automatically is checked. do this on both computers. Let me know if it works. lone99star

If they are charging you for the use of the westel, just tell them you don't need it. I would keep using your other modem that works.

do you have login access into the Modem/Router?
if yes, look for port forwarding and set it to your IP of your computer. open port 500 or what ever is required by MS fro the VPN
