Sounds like a convergence failure, here is a tutorial I made: http://www.fixya.com/support/r5001731-convergence_diagnosing_convergence Let me know if I can be of further assistance.
it could be that the tv convergence circuit is going bad. One shure way of finding out is to go to the tv feature menu(picture, audio etc.) and select the customer convergence setting, you should get a cross hair pattern(cross in middle of screen). that cross should be white and by aligning the red or blue colors they should move left, right, up or down
Replace IK04 and IK05, both STK392-110, but use instead STK392-150's for greater reliability. And don't get some Chineese knock-offs - use original Sanyo replacements. If you don't know where to get those try ACME Enterprises in Florida, http://www.acme-sales.net/index.shtml
Also measure the low ohm feed resistors in that circuit. However usually just replacing the convergence amps will restore normal video...

There should be a little door directly under the center of the screen and behind that door should be the button you are looking for. On the older Hitachi projection sets a large white cross will appear on the screen when that button is presses and you will only be able to adjust the center of the picture. The newer sets will automatically converge themselves (called Magic Fucus) when that button is pressed. Follow the instructions in your owners manual for convergence and let me know if you need more help.
dont move the pic tubes that will be a costly mistake the problem is still your ics replace them all you should have two check for bad solder connections
