Xerox Phaser 3125 & D-Link DP-301U - printer sill sleeping

Xerox is attached to the Print server d-link via usb. There are 3 computers in the network. All of them ''see'' the print-server. I print a document. This document is printed correctly. Then I wait fo 5 minutes and print another document. Error message ''the document cannot be printed'' occurs on my screen. After that I open and close the printer's cover - document is printed immediately. It seems like when the printed is in ''sleeping'' mode the print-server is not able to wake up it. Can anybody help me?

SOURCE: Scanner

This is not a solution just a possible fly in the ointment. I have often found that scanners only work when attached directly to a computer. Scanning over the network is not a solution I have found. You can always share out the printer from the attached pc.

I have one of theses D-Link PD-301U. It does NOT support a printer like yours. According to D-Link's Web site, here are the HP Laser printers it supports (note the P1008 is NOT in the list):

LaserJet

I am using DP-301U print server and wanting to attach with hp 1020 plus. However the printer in not printing. what is the root cause and give the solution please...

    Hello and welcome to fixya.

First off, I would like to provide you a link with the print server's manual to download it directly and have it as spare.

The printer you are trying to install is a laser printer (black/white only) and probably a bit old model.
Therefore, if you are trying to print from your computer over ethernet, and you have windows vista or 7 (64 or 32bit accordingly) you might have the inappropriate drivers for either the print server or the printer. You can find all of the HP printer's drivers HERE. Select carefully based on your OS.

As a SIDENOTE: If you just need the drivers installed and there are only larger setup execut. files available, you can use 7zip or winace to open up the *.exe file and navigate to the appropriate folder and extract only that one to your computer and install the driver(s) from there.

The D-Link DP-301U print server drivers are available HERE. Default username and password for the management console of the print server can be found at pdf manual page 25. The url to access the administration console is dlink-******,where the asterisks stand for the last 6 digits of the print server MAC address.

Overall, not to make things over-complicated (150+ PDF user manual pages) you need to do the following:

    1. Install the appropriate drivers of your hp printer on the computer that will have also print serv. softare installed.
    2. Install the appropriate software/drivers of the dlink print server on the same computer.
    3. Plugin the usb cable of your printer to the print server's USB port.
    4. Plugin the ethernet cable of your print server port to the ethernet port of your home router/switch.
    5. Setup Fixed IP settings for your print server configuration (page 20 on the manual).

Let me know how that went. I believe you will manage to do it that way quite easily.

**Don't Forget to vote how helpful this was.**

    Thanks.

I am able to configure the print server and configure printer but not able to print

    try this.

i got my dp-301u to work fine with my hp1020 on 2 different workstations with the following steps.

    1. install printer locally via usb and test.
    2. create a second printer as per the dlink manual creating a port. don't worry about the name as we will delete it.
    3. once created go into the properties of the 2nd printer and change the port to something local - anything will do to free up the port.
    4. go into the properties of the printer that was created in step 1. and change the port to that of the print server.
    5. test print. should work fine.

    cheers!!

    D-Link DP-301U Problem

It should be fine as long as it is in the range that the router can recognize and that it doesn't conflict with another IP address used on another device. Usually on the networks I design I keep the printers on higher IP address so that they can be managed on a certain range.

Is this the wireless print server?

What specifically do you mean by PJL printer block?
