Black and Red are your two hots for high and low speed. The Green is always ground and the Blue would be neutral.

I have old spa motor with Red - low speed, Black - High speed, White - Neutral, Green - ground. New Dayton 5PXG3 motor has only L1, L2 and ground. How do you wire that?

The motor should work if you connect the black wire to L1, white wire to L2 and green wire to ground. The red wire should be cut so the conductor does not extend past the insulation and the end wrapped with electrical tape. This should be correct if the motor is a 120 VAC motor. If the motor is a 240 VAC motor then the white wire is not really neutral. It should be wrapped in both the motor wiring area with black electrical tape and the other end in the timer should also be wrapped with black tape.

If this causes a problem because you now have no low speed for the spa then the only way to get the low speed is to squire a 2 speed motor.

I hope this helps.

Wiring a 230v ao smith pump : L1 and L2 connection

Hi, assuming you have 4-conductor wire, use the black and red wires for L1 and L2. It doesn't matter which goes to which. If you do not have a red wire, use black and white. The green or bare wire in a 3-wire cable goes to the ground. If you have 4-conductor wire, the ground wire is the one you used for the GFCI on the breaker--usually the white wire. Please let me know if you have more questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

I just purchaced a 4hp franklin spa pump. It is for a nuwave 2000 spa. The plug from the control panel has 4 wires, black, red, white and green ground. Where do the red, black and white wires attach on...

WHITE wire is your neutral so will go as blue wire.
BLACK and RED wires are your high and low speed for your pump.
I would plug red and black into either, plug in and turn spa on - if high speed comes on first then turn spa off and swap red and black wires round. the side of your pump or under top of control unit will give you a diagram of where high and low speed goes.

My power cord was cut, positioning for new positive and ground and negative wires are needed

If you're running 120v, the hot lead goes on the brass colored terminal and the silver is the nuetral and the green is ground.

for 240v. you'll have a red hot and a black hot... and then a white neutral and a ground as well. Ground goes to a screw terminal on the motor housing,
