go into printer properties and change the setting....you probably are using an after-market cartridge...they are notorious for being too dark....even if that is not the case, go to printer properties and change the setting....if there is no slide bar for heavy to light, then clik on toner saver, it should print lighter than it does now

90% or more of the time on this printer dark lines are coming from your toner/drum cartridge. You can verify this by changing cartridges if you have a spare. If you don't then remove the cartridge and look at the colored cylinder in the cartridge and see if the same "lines" are on the cylinder that are on your prints. This will tell you for sure that the cartridge is bad.
I also have this problem. I even have prints that were made when I first got the printer about 2 years ago, which looked great then and now, and the EXACT same picture from the same program prints incredibly (unusably) dark.
go to printer driver properties..
1.click printing preferences set it to USE PRINTER CONFIGURATION
2.go to advance click Printing Defaults set it to USE PRINTER CONFIGURATION
you must set this two configuration
note: fresh installed driver defaulth to software control
Dark streaks are an indication of "burned" or overheated ink. This will occur when the printer sets for a long period of time and nothing is printed. The problem will usually disappear after 50 pages or so, unless the printhead is damaged.
If the print remains dark, the printhead will need replaced.
(Dark print can also be caused by using Non-Xerox ink)
