Dimension 5100 and windows xp pro SP3 clean install

Hi Dimension 5100 2gb ddr2 current bios Purchased a new drive for a family member and did a clean install of Windows xp Pro SP3 full not upgrade (original had Windows home). Well everything installs correctly until it reboots and goes to the windows xp logo and bar (left to right) then it stops and nothing happens. In safe mode can only go to safemode (not with networking as it stalls). Read up it has to do with SP3 so used an old original windows xp pro disc (non SP1-3) and everything installed correctly and it even went to the desktop without problems. Tried SP2 upgrade and still worked. Can't use this disc as it is mine (through university) and his is the xp pro SP3 one. So how can i install windows if his pc has problems with SP3 and his disc has SP3 integrated? Any help will be greatly appreciated. I have installed many pc's with xp vista w7 very old (dimension 4100) to current without any problems but this is the first time I'm stumped. Thanks all and sorry for such a long question.

I was able to dig this up.

Run Windows in safe mode.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\Minimal\
Create a registry key REG_SZ key and call it MSIService and value data and call it Service, which is the windows installer. This will give you permission to uninstall windows service Pack 3 from add/remove programs while in safe mode.

Download the SP3 installation ISO. Save it to your Desktop. Download ImgBurn and save it to your Desktop. Double-click the installation executable for ImgBurn and click "Next." Follow the remaining onscreen prompts and click "Finish" to complete installation of ImgBurn. Insert a blank CD-R/DVD-R into your DVD drive. Open ImgBurn by going to "Start," "Programs" and "ImgBurn." Click "File," then "Browse for a source file." Navigate to your Desktop and select the SP3 ISO file. Click "Open." Click the blue "ISO to CD" button located on the bottom left of ImgBurn. The program will begin creating the Windows XP SP3 installation CD. This process may take anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes to complete depending on the speed at which the CD-R/DVD-R is being burned. Click "OK" once the CD-R/DVD-R has finished burning. You've successfully created a Windows XP SP3 installation CD.

2)- When you see the "Press any key to boot from CD" message, press any key to start the computer from the Windows XP CD.
3)- At the Welcome to Setup screen, press ENTER to start Windows XP Setup.
4)- Read the Microsoft Software License Terms, and then press F8.
5)- Follow the instructions on the screen to select and format a partition where you want to install Windows XP.
6)- Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the Windows XP Setup.

Note:- Back up all important information before you perform a clean installation of Windows XP. Save the backup to an external location, such as a CD or external hard disk.

Dimension 5100 and windows xp pro SP3 clean install

Well if you have it installed on the computer and cant get past the Windows logo. Put the SP3 disk in and do a repair. Make sure you hit -R and not the repair button after clicking continue. Well the directions for a repair will be on the screen. That is my thoughts on what you should do. If you have already done this, then I'm not sure where you should head to next. Hope this helps!!

I need to reinstall window xp pro on my dell dimension 2400-

If you don't need any files currently on the computer, boot from your Windows XP disc, have it delete the current partition and then format the new partition, and install windows XP.
Note: this will delete anything you currently have on the computer at this time!

Windows XP on Acer Aspire M1610

Hi Watashifr,

First you will need to boot up. When you do this you need to go into bios and then go to boot and disable the hard drive floppy and any other drivers. You must make sure you keep the cd driver as 'able', save setting and exit out of bios. This will let you reboot. After it`s done, the partition in the computer will reboot the computer. Make sure to go back into bios and able the hard drive, floppy etc...
I had the same problem, and solved it this way.
